My girlfriend and I are looking to get away for a few days over winterbreak. Any suggestions for a nice but relatively inexpensive destination? We're not wanting to drive too far, so I guess within NC or Southern Virginia would be ideal. 11/14/2006 12:23:59 PM |

My girlfriend and I went to Kitty Hawk right after New Years and got a decent hotel room with no reservation for ~$40 a night. Was pretty cool for a spur of the moment thing. 11/14/2006 12:29:21 PM |

We already did a beach trip this year for a family reunion, and i had one for business as well. I've never been to Kitty Hawk though, so that's an idea. I think we'd like to try something in the mountains preferably. 11/14/2006 12:37:58 PM |

I really like bed and breakfasts. Most aren't quite $40 per night, but some aren't that much more, and you get a lot more ambiance out of them than a standard hotel. There are plenty of them in the mountains. This site http://bbonline.com/nc/ has a list of ones in N.C. divided by region. 11/14/2006 12:50:28 PM |

You could drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway and just stay at little mountain lodges on the way. 11/14/2006 12:50:55 PM |

go winter camping....good time of year if you have the right gear and can take a bit of cold weather.......you'll likely have where ever you go all to yourself.
and a bonus. If the lady friend is up for that, you've got a keeper. 11/14/2006 1:04:34 PM |

What kind of vacation do you want? Camping in wilderness? Beach? Do you want outside or inside?
A good cheap vacation is going to Myrtle Beach (north myrtle) and getting a room at one of the smaller motels and going to House of Blues. Walk on the beach, down the strip, whatever you're in the mood for. Cost you around $120 for the who shabang + gas.
It's cheap at the beach during winter. 11/14/2006 1:10:12 PM |

No camping. I'm pretty much open to any ideas, but i would get no where suggesting camping to her, so that idea is pretty much off the table. 11/15/2006 3:02:29 PM |

Go to Northern NC where there might be some snow. Have a winter wonderland getaway! 11/15/2006 3:08:56 PM |

^ Agree. "Head to the mountains; head for Busch beer" (Hoyt Axton).
