This has got to be one of the most entertaining and well editied trailers I've ever seen.

http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/smokinaces/

i know i make a lot of new movie threads...most of which I get excited about and end up sucking, but once again I think this has serious potential.

Quote :
"In these interlocking tales of high stakes and low lifes, Mob boss Primo Sparazza has taken out a hefty contract on Buddy "Aces" Israel (Piven)--a sleazy magician who has agreed to turn state's evidence against the Vegas mob. The FBI, sensing a chance to use this small-time con to bring down big-target Sparazza, places Aces into protective custody-under the supervision of two agents (Reynolds and Liotta) dispatched to Aces' Lake Tahoe hideout. When word of the price on Aces' head spreads into the community of ex-cons and cons-to-be, it entices bounty hunters, thugs-for-hire, smokin' hot vixens and double-crossing mobsters to join in the hunt. With all eyes on Tahoe, this rogues' gallery collides in a comic race to hit the jackpot and rub out Aces."

Starring:

Ben Affleck
Jason Bateman (Arrested Development)
Common
Andy Garcia
Alicia Keys
Ray Liotta
Jeremy Piven
Ryan Reynolds

Writer/Director:

Joe Carnahan

When I see Ben Whofleck, Alicia Keys, and Ryan Reynolds, I say "no."

When I see Jason Bateman plus a sleazy magician, I say "maybe."

When I see Joe Carnahan, I say "FUCK YES."

Joe Carnahan did an awesome job with Narc. The opening scene of Narc is fire.

this movie was freaking incredible. it's one of the best movies i've seen in the last 5 years from start to finish. it is worth seeing about 5 times...the tremors were freaking cool...i can't stop talking about this movie and my gf is about to kill me for it...very awesome, very gory, some cool twists, and some jokes.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE!

For some reason it reminds me of some Oceans Eleven garbage. WAY to overdirected and overacted with way too many big name people in it. Hell, IMDb only has it at a 6.6 so far. Maybe I see it in the theater, but will prolly just download it in a few months for free.

I think I might just have Andy Garcia so type cast into that role that I hate any movie he is in now, I dont know.

judging by the previews i thought this movie had potential to be decent, but also had potential to kinda suck...

This movie was infinitely better than I expected. Entertaining all the way through. The violent action and fucked up jokes don't stop. I can't believe how good this movie is compared to what everyone is expecting or reviewed it as. I would compare it to last years Running Scared. No one expected anything from that movie and it was pretty bad ass. I predict that there will be plenty of people watching it this weekend that will agree this movie is awesome.

i'm looking forward to see this flick. i agree that it looks over-the-top, but i think that's part of the appeal. piven, bateman, liotta, reynolds...gotta be at least SOME hilarity.

so is Narc a good movie? I've heard of it, but never heard of this director.

just got back from seeing it. it wasn't anything special. it had a nice twist at the ending, but other than that it was only OK. not worth shelling out the big bucks to see it in the theaters, but would make a good netflix rental someday

was totally ready to see this tonight, but now i'm rethinking it. going to movies on opening nights is such a pain out here, so i might still see it, but not right away.

Ocean's 11 meets Pulp Fiction is what came to mind when I saw this..

Definitely worth watching if you like Tarantino movies, although not as good as his movies.

Lost fans: Matthew Fox is in this movie.. was an 'oh shit' moment in the theatre when his scene came up since no one knew he was in the movie.

Ending seemed rushed. Worth seeing once.. not twice. Leaves you feeling empty. It had great potential, but fell short in my opinion.

There were just way too many characters. They didn't really develop any of them. Combine that with the fact that they tried to throw in a ton of "twisty" background plot and it just felt a bit rushed and shallow. It was okay, and like it was said before, it had potential. They just didn't pull it off in my opinion. You didn't feel like you really knew any of the characters or really even gave a shit. In fact, there were some characters that didn't even need to be in the movie at all

I'd give it a C+

I really liked the movie. I'll agree that some of the characters may have been a little rushed, but the plot kept me guessing. I would give it a B or a B+ overall.

i thought it sucked ass. pacing was awful. often tried way too hard to be funny and failed.

not to mention character development was pretty bad, but that's expected in a movie like this.
