when the field turf is new it is like playing on really long grass, so the game is slowed down. Personally, I believe football, baseball etc, should be played on natural grass

while were at it ive always wondered is it the actual ground that teams play on in nfl stadiums cuz its inside the building. is it like one big flower pot? do they put like 8 feet of dirt into a concret bowl and put the field on that or do they dig out to the ground? i know in alot of colleges the stadium is built in seperate buildings like nascar but nfl is one big stadium so im wondering how they do ti. if so somebody could like dig a hole and popout groundhog day 50 yard line in the middle of a game lol.also ive seen how water just sits on the field when it rains and ive heard many have pumping systems which is why i have the flower pto theory.


i know that about half the college teams play on georgia creepin bean while almost half play on alabama creepin beam. there are some exceptions like kentucky uses bluegrass and cal smokes weed but for the most part hey are the main 2

georgia creeping bean is lighter and teams can run faster but alabma creepin bean is thicker and slows teams down and is better for defens. thats why bama is traditionaly defensive while uga is traditionally airfesne.

remember those really bizzare Jo-Ball commercials they used to have for (I think) Coors Light? It was some really bizzare football-like sport played on a blacktop and they wore spiked pads or something...i barely remember it, but they used to show those ads during fb games around '97 i think.

Most of the high schools here in kansas where I live use the field turf now. I've personally never played on it, but walking on it and touching, it feels like it would be pretty nice to play on.

Most of the turf fields are pretty thick so it slows everything down, but I don't think it presents much of an advantage for either the defense or offense really. Kicking wise, I am sure kickers love it because they don't have to worry about their footing (see Bowling Green kicker last night)

I've futzed around on fieldturf fields before. They're pretty sweet, and realistic. The place where I was at had rubber pellets from chopped up tires put down with the turf to make it a little softer.

Maintanance cost are much lower, and the stuff pays for itself in about 3-4 years from what I've been told. Much nicer than Astroturf, which is more like playing on a green parking lot. I'd rather see folks play on natural grass, but with the new stuff's feel and cost savings I can certainly see why they're putting these new fields in all over the place.

Nothing like playing Mud Ball though.
