definitely wrong. i dont know the stats anymore but at one point, my HS, charlotte catholic had been to the NC State championship game like 8 out the past 11 years and 2 of the top 3 keepers on the NC shutout record list played there in the last 10 years.11/17/2006 1:13:15 PM |

16 zillion kids play soccer, so that'd mean they follow and support that sport as they age - right?
I'd be willing to bet that fucking NASCAR puts up more attendence numbers than all the college and pro soccer teams in the US combined. We suck at football, yet still put 55K in the stands eight times a year. How many show up for a NCSU soccer match?
So yes, all things considered, no one gives a shit about soccer (at least in the US)

That would explain why every time there's a major soccer game/event at SAS, it's packed to the brim with a capacity crowd.
Cary Cups 1 & 2..... NCAA Final 4..... NCAA Women's Final 4.... ACC Championships...... US Soccer Friendlies vs Whoever...... USL All-Star game vs Sheffield Wednesday.....
Or why Barcelona and Real Madrid's US Tour dates were all sold out... not to mention the MLS All-Star game vs Chelsea.....
Seriously. Keep thinking that while soccer gets bigger and bigger every day.

EWalk sucks anyway! (na just kidding, you know who I am)
However, soccer is growing more and more each year. Also, the reason there are 55k in the ncsu football stands and not at the soccer games is because there is a tradition known as tailgating that dates back to the early/mid century, soccer has no such tradition; ergo, your football example fails, which means that the rest of your argument fails. Thanks for coming out though! 11/17/2006 4:12:52 PM |

Well, if you were at the Forestview game a couple weeks ago in Gastonia, you could have heard part of a speech by Hitler. Apparently, some exchange student from Germany was teaching teammates German, and used a speech by Hitler to help everyone out. Instead of just playing this for the team, they played it on the PA system.
V Damn, that's right. My bad.

id really like to see Catholic play the triangle area teams more...especially back around the time I was in school. we're 3A now and were 2A then but we filled our schedule with charlotte area 3A and 4A teams outside of our conference schedule even as 2A and always competed well (defeating the likes of myers park, providence, east meck etc on a regular basis - frequenters to the 4A finals. also have never lost to gibbons the few times we've played them in my memory) . My sophomore year I remember outscoring our opponents like 150-10 from the regular season to through the state championship game.
So far this year they are 93GF-9GA regular season and 21GF-2GA in the playoffs coming into tonights game...but they are playing the only team to beat them all season: Lake Norman who is on a 54 game win streak. We lost 2-1 earlier this year giving up 2 second half goals. should be a very good game. Best part is, of our 23 man roster, only 4 are seniors and only 2 are starters.

well we used to have some South American coaches that were just unbelievable, they knew what they were doing and they had the respect of the players.
for the past 4 years we've had some reject playboy computer science teacher pose as manager and he's really lead the program to shit.
my best friend, who has been playing year-round soccer since he's been like 4, was basically the coach of the team before we graduated, and now he's playin soccer at Davidson.
this year the school picked up a coach from Haiti and an alumn as assist. coach, except now the problem is our players have no talent (except for the keeper which is amazing and is definitely getting a scholarship to duke or some place).
it'll take a couple years for the Ravenscroft program to build up and become solid again. 11/14/2007 5:40:40 PM |

you're right, except for a dude with the last name "wilkins".... he was some all american dude that was like the 3rd best wrestler in teh country.
yea, our football team was good 5 years ago when we won the NCISAA championship, the swim team won the championship my freshman year (which i was a part of), and our boys basketball is pretty good now.
it looks like the athletics program is on the rise now tho, our Lacrosse team is going to be phenomenal for the next couple years. we weren't good this past year because some policy at the school says that our head coach had to be a faculty member, and the only guy that had any experience with lacrosse had played club at FSU. Playin lacrosse senior year was the most fun i had in athletics though. there's nothing more fun than being bigger than most everyone else and having the fresh/sophies fear you.11/14/2007 5:49:53 PM |
