stfu arghx. you've posted/done FAR more stupid crap, and that's just what comes out on here. who knows what else has happened IRL.

oh, and when was the last time you actually fabricated/built something of that extent and had it work?

i'm confident 99% of you haters on here couldn't even come close to completing such a project, and even if you could it'd look even worse.

it's not the prettiest thing, but i've seen it in person and it's not a total hack job. welds are decent, etc. function over form idiots. i'm sure if it was all powdercoated/chromed out you'd be like "ooh, ahhh".

yeah, from a leaky injector iirc. nothing directly related to the turbo install.
^^i agree... but it doesn't cross that line in this situation.

egt's won't be NEARLY that high at that point. i'm pretty sure he has plans for a heat shield also. it'll still be pretty damn warm in there though, even with the windows down.

since I heard about this project I've been wondering how much the efficiency of the turbos would suffer from the heat lost due to an excessively long exhaust run to the turbo inlets, last I heard there was no boost gauge so there was no way of telling though... get that shit working and satisfy my curiosity pls kthx.

^huh? what does heat loss have to with loss of efficiency? the lower egt will only increase efficiency, heat is a turbo's biggest enemy.

it's been well proven that remote mount turbos are superior in that aspect, generally even eliminating the need for an intercooler (the piping acts as one).

I was under the impression that higher exhaust temperatures increased the efficiency of the turbine and resulted in a higher boost pressure, albeit at a higher intake temperature. The engine would not necessarily more power as a consequence of the increase in temperature, but that is something which would presumably be offset by either the addition or upgrade of an intercooler? Feel free to correct me with something more credible than advertising for someone selling remote mount turbo systems.

Given a molar quantity of a gas at higher temperature, it would have either greater pressure or volume than the same quantity at a lower temperature, and would seem to me to exert more force on the turbine in its partial confinement... I can see no reason why a denser gas would exert more force on the turbine.

if there is a sun roof, you should put the intercooler there to go with the everything in the cabin motif.

^^not really... yes, assuming a constant housing size the incoming exhaust temperature will affect efficiency at different rpms due to hotter air consuming more space (volume) and cooler air being more dense using less space (volume). it's not a rule you can apply to every turbo though. ideally, you want as cool of air as possible driving the turbine, with a housing that's properly matched in size to that temp/volume of air. you want air temp to be your constant, and housing size to be the variable in proper matching/tuning.

you also have to consider that the higher the egt, the more of that heat is transferred to the outgoing air. sure, you can build more and more boost... but once heat soaked, the added air doesn't do a damn thing for performance.

i guess in this situation it's possible these particular turbos could benefit in a higher temp. or maybe not. i don't know that he did the math for that.

Another thing about EGT's:

Higher egt often means the engine internally is running hotter. This means more chance of preignition in the engine (fuel spontaneously combusts before the spark plug even fires, as opposed to the plug firing and the gas igniting before the flame front reaches it). That's why EGT's are also important when tuning, not just AFR's and timing advance. That's one of the reasons why race gas is so much safer than pump gas--pump gas preignites under 500 degrees F, while race gas (obviously depending on octane, lead etc) is usually over 600.

This relates well to rotaries actually because they tend to run a hell of a lot hotter than piston engines. The higher EGT's help spool the turbo but they also lead to the motor going kaboom... according to my gauge, my Turbo II runs about 1400 degrees under closed loop highway cruising and around 1200 degrees under boost (obviously a much richer mixture there). Although rear rotors always run hotter and leaner, and that's why they almost always pop a seal first.
