i've only really listened to beautiful, the funeral of hearts, the sacrament, and wings of a butterfly...but i'm not really getting a satanic vibe from their music...am i missing something? wouldn't the name of their band imply that they're satanic?

don't get me wrong, i wasn't looking for satanic music...i was just surprised at how mild it their stuff is

you dont have to scream about the devil to be satanic. Richard Wagner is recognized by the Church Of Satan as being true satanic music.

okay, let me rephrase...i can't find anything in their music that's satanic...unless you consider ripping the wings off a butterfly satanic

I never thought that the were supposed to be satanic. I seem to recall reading a different explanation of their name back in the day.

Quote :
"HIM is a band from Finland formed in 1991 by vocalist Ville Valo, guitarist Mikko Viljami "Linde" Lindström, and bassist Mikko Henrik Julius "Migé" Paananen. As of 2006, they are the first and only Finnish rock band to sell Gold in the USA. The band's name was His Infernal Majesty at the beginning, but was changed to "HIM". They were also known as HER and HIM and HER for a brief time while in the in the United States and Germany, respectively."

Quote :
"Heartagram is the name of a trademarked symbol of HIM. It consists of a heart and a pentagram. The heartagram has been falsely associated with satanism, so some believe HIM is satanic, which is false according to Valo. The heartagram symbolizes the contrast or perfect balance between life and death or love and hatred, or even love and death together. Valo has said that "the heartagram stands for HIM as a band, as an entity, and for 'love metal' in general," and claims the band is a "love metal band""

i didn't think they were satanic because of the pentagram/heartagram/whatever, i was basing it solely on the name...googling "his infernal majesty" gives you two overwhelming results - the band and references to satan

If you want real satanic music I suggest you pick up the new Xasthur album "Subliminal Genocide"

i don't recall saying i "explored" their music, dumbass...but i did explore their four most popular songs, wondering how a satanic (or so i thought, by the name) band could get radio play

You're a good guy, quagmire, but you really are dumb when it comes to some things.

For instance, this entire topic.

^^Once again you seemed to have missed the point of my comment. I mean hell, Rob Zombie gets radio time.

^ how so?

it's a fairly simple concept in my mind...their band name is a reference to satan, no matter how you look at it...there is no other "his infernal majesty" other than satan...after sampling their music, i have found no blatant satanic references...i suppose i confused everyone when i didn't spell it out exactly:

how does this band's music relate to satan - is it satanic? if it's not satanic, is there an explanation as to why they would reference their band name to satan?

i don't feel like i need to explore the entire discography of a band in order to get these answers...i'm obviously much dumber than skankinande (i can't figure out how, though...he ACTS like he knows something, but he can't seem to find anything intelligent to post)...Ronny says i'm dumb as well...but his knowledge of the topic is obviously non-existent, or i would have though he'd post it by now...thegoodlife3 acts like he's contributed something worthwhile, but if he has, i've missed it

tartsquid understands my question...but my brief google search yielded nothing

i encourage all of you to contribute something...i understand that sarcasm and vague insults are as good as some of you can muster, and that's cool with me, i wouldn't want to tax you too much

Quote :
"Their first bandname was His Infernal Majesty (chosen spontaneously, almost as a joke). But as their popularity rose, they needed to change their name because:

* Finnish people were having difficulties pronouncing the name
* The band name was never actually serious
* The band started getting unwanted occult associations

Consequently, the band changed the name to HIM from the Wicked Game single (The "Your Sweet Six Six Six" single included a 'His Infernal Majesty' sticker) onwards. Some people, mainly American fans and journalists, incorrectly use "H.I.M.".

In the official HIM biography, Synnin Viemaa, Ville Valo admitted to making things up and joking about the name during interviews, leading to conflicting accounts of the origin of the name and the confusion that exists today. During an interview, Valo has said:

"In almost every interview someone asks what does HIM stand for. I can't even remember our latest lie about that. When Hanson was hot, we said it means Hanson Is Murder. The name doesn't have a particular history. His Infernal Majesty was a totally different band. I think HIM derives from some death metal joke. And it was our protest to Haile Selassie's rastafarian religion, he used to be called His Imperial Majesty. But nowadays because of Linde's hair, we actually might be supporting him." "

HIM is a good band that I think was better before this last album. I really enjoyed their other albums but this new one is kinda lame. They were good in concert, ville drank jack and cokes the whole time.
