Does anyone know why Craigslist flags and/or deletes all ads concerning firearms sales (even if it is perfectly legit)?
looked around their disclaimers and couldn't find anything about it. 11/22/2006 10:31:55 AM |

I don't know for sure, but I think it's only legal for the public to sell firearms at gunshows or to a liscened dealer.

no, I can sell or buy, say a shotgun anywhere. Hand guns are where it gets ify. 11/22/2006 10:38:44 AM |

Oh, maybe that's just for handguns.
Maybe Craigslist does that for liability then? If Craigslist makes it easy for a convicted felon to get a gun & murder someone, I would think the family of the victim would sue the hell out of craigslist.

It's fine to sell any type of firearm in this state(you need to get a permit from the buyer for a handgun.) I doubt this is true nationwide, and certainly not in California where the pinkie liberal tree-hugger commie that runs craigslist lives. That or he doesn't want to deal with the hassle. 11/22/2006 11:13:44 AM |

you can get a good pump at a pawn shop for the same price you'd find one on the internet
Dicks also has them on sale right now 11/22/2006 12:09:29 PM |

Even if it's not against Craigslist policy per se, the people on the site could still flag stuff, right? The way I understand the system is that when enough people flag something it's automatically taken off without being reviewed concerning whether it's actually against the policy. So there are probably just people who don't approve of your trying to sell guns and they stalk the site so they can flag you and have your stuff removed. 11/22/2006 12:23:08 PM |

Certain states have laws against where you can buy firearms. Craigslist is the same no matter where you go and instead of setting up certain rules for certain areas they just delete anything that is "iffy" legally.
Guns, body parts, drugs, you get the idea. 11/22/2006 12:25:45 PM |

They seem to have a good selection of used pieces. Talk directly to one of the guys at the counter instead of waiting in the western union line.
Not sure if the PDHSC does used, but they have a nice collection down there.11/22/2006 12:33:29 PM |

maybe they'd just rather not open themselves up to potential legal problems with people selling firearms.
it's totally their choice as a company to make this rule. 11/23/2006 1:37:33 AM |

^^ "Varies by state" - This is the reason. Gun laws from state to state are tricky, and trafficking in firearms across state lines can involve the feds, and who wants to deal with that headache? I know they let people advertise for anything on CL, but most of the other ads don't have the potential to end up on the evening news: "A local man was shot today by his brother, who purchased the firearm through craigslist..." - people might get angry about the other "services" for sale on CL, but when people end up dead, the "We don't censor our ads" becomes "you'd goddamn better" by the save our children movement. 11/25/2006 11:20:45 AM |

you have to post it less conspicuously. Like Mossberg .12 gage instead of shotgun
