i'm thinking it would be better to bring in an "up-and-comer" than hire someone who would be taking a step down in the college football world - a reject.

then again, i think coker is a pretty damn good coach, and we might end up with someone worse if we gamble.

His track record says that he SUX at recruiting. He was @ his best when the roster was totally Davis' players, and as he integrated his in, they sucked more and more.

you can look at miami's decline two ways:
1. coker can't recruit like butch davis did.
2. miami moved to an actual football conference; leaving the big least bakery.

as for coker recruiting 'thugs'... a) we don't/haven't? b) kids fuck up. there's no reason to label everyone because of a few. c) i'm glad the miami players saw it fit to defend their kicker in the brawl.

if you're saying that because of the lax punishments for the players involved in the brawl, blame the school president, shalaila (sp?). the school board and her were the ones to come up with the punishment; not coker.

i like coker alot as a person and coach. he doesn't spew bullshit. he doesn't talk up shit. he's a straight shooter. there's never been questions about his recruiting, and violations. coker doesn't have a flamboyent personality. he doesn't alienate boosters, fans, the media, other coaches, the administration, etc.

coker would be a bad choice, if for no other reason because you don't want to hire a coach fresh off of being fired from a school in your own conference. that would look terrible.
