I own a 2003 Mazda Protege5. As of recent, I've noticed the e-brake indicator light coming on when I brake any harder than a light stop. The indicator will turn off as soon as I release the brake pedal. Most of the time I slow down by gearing down (it's a five speed), and it still comes on, even with the light braking.

Any suggestions as to what someone may think it might be, or know of any places in Raleigh that will diagnose it for free?

Check your brake fluid. Probably Low. That light indicates everything with your brakes, not just the ebrake.

what ^he said. could also be a sign of the master cylinder going bad but yeah, check the fluid first.

top off the brake fluid, and check your pads, cause they are probably worn the fuck out if the fluid is that low
