I just got the Pionneer one that is 139 from crutchfield and its really nice. Get a $5 cord from Walmart to plug in the back then its good. I have had two that required ipod interfaces and the deck control sucks, just get one that has an aux port.

id rather control through ipod than the deck but id like a cable that charges it and plays to the deck all in one; kenwood has one.

i know you could get an aux cable that uses a 1/8in plug to the ipod but i guess that trade off is that it doesnt charge it

^ optmusprimer and I have both had that deck, it was nice but we both switched to flip-outs for a while...I think he had the steering wheel interface but neither of us hooked an ipod to it

yesterday I ordered the Pioneer DEH-P6800MP from crutchfield
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-87FbgFbFLZH/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=300&I=130DEHP680

It was on sale for $199 and included the free ipod interface, plus another $20 off from a referral from optmusprimer. This deck also has another front aux input so you can hook up another mp3 player, satellite receiver, or an ipod if you want to control it away from the head unit, but it doesn't charge it that way.

I also had the JVC that JonHGuth posted. Sent it back after about a month, the USB interface was cool but on CDs it would skip a lot.

^^yeah i was looking at the 4800 pioneer model just for starters, i dont want anything too expensive, just basic. what ipod adaptor came with it free? if its the typical pioneer one, let me know how that works.

yeah it is the Pioneer CD-iB100ii

I also have a Pioneer CDRB20 left over from a previous install which is probably what I will run my XM through. That way everything will be wired in and I won't have to switch cables around. The weird thing about the front input on the 6800 is that its a 2.5 instead of a 3.5 but I had to buy a cable anyway so I just got a 2.5to3.5 cable in case I do decide to use that input for anything.

so does the CD-iB100ii suck when using the deck to control the ipod? i basically read if you want to scroll through songs individually its not that great but if you have playlists already made and whatnot, its pretty simple.

I'll find out when I get it. I have read good things about this new wheel/selector from Pioneer. But I think it will help just setting up the files on the iPod the way the radio wants them, most people probably don't do that.

the control knob on the deck
Quote :
"Rotary Commander: The large rotary knob on the front panel is a 7-way control that can operate about 90% of the unit's functions and features. The knob can be rotated clockwise and counterclockwise, pressed in, and tilted up, down, left, and right. This feature allows you to easily scroll through files and folders on your MP3/WMA/AAC CDs as well as a connected iPod (via the optional iPod adapter)."

Quote :
"Pioneer's Full Control solution is unmatched - operation with the Rotary Commander is virtually identical to the actual iPod control, and the three-line text display is intuitive and responsive."

this is all based off customer reviews and manufacturer reports so far, but I am looking forward to trying it out

The 4800 is a great deck, I had a kenwood before and it sucked compared to this one and its half the price. Just read the reviews on it and all ipod interfaces suck for song selections.

^^^^let me know when you install that shit soon, i wanna know if it really works like that with the scrolling knob and if it is in "real time" vs. some people say the 4800 and lower you have to click with the buttons and it takes 2 seconds to display what folder youre at.

i noticed that but figured it was just a rough road. i dont mind anyways, because of the usb and aux in i never use cd's anymore. i really like the equalizer on it.

my truck also had 5" of lift on it at the time so to be fair that had to contribute some...but none of my other decks took it so rough so I am going back to Pioneer
