I live near that lake off Lake Dam road and I am starting to get tired of running there all the time. Too many old folks, families, and lethal people with 16ft dog leashes.
Are there any other nice, natural trails to run around this area, preferably something over a mile? 11/29/2006 11:55:10 AM |

there are tons of greenways in Raleigh
http://www.raleighnc.gov/portal/server.pt/gateway/PTARGS_0_2_99826_0_0_18/Capital_Area_Greenway_Map.pdf
or you could just run through neighborhoods and track your mileage on the gmaps pedometer 11/29/2006 1:36:41 PM |

here's a link to the greenway maps for Cary: http://www.townofcary.org/depts/dsdept/P&Z/bicycleplan/bicycleplanmap.htm
You could also go to lake crabtree to run the trails out there 11/29/2006 1:54:47 PM |

I live in southeast cary. Greenway #23 is right next to me. It'd be real swell if they could connect it to something! 11/29/2006 2:33:26 PM |

I'm kind of hoping for the not-having-to-drive to run arrangement. 11/29/2006 2:36:24 PM |

Please don't! There are tons of trails for runners/ hikers only. Crabtree is practically the only legal singletrack for mountain biking in Raleigh. Do yourself and the bikers a favor and run at Umstead, Schenk or Centennial.

There's a greenway by your house that goes from the lake to Trailwood Dr. From Trailwood, you can go up Avent Ferry to the Centennial Campus trails.

You must be confused about the map. There is a greenway that goes from Lake Johnson to Trailwood. I used to run and bike it all the time.11/30/2006 9:41:52 AM |

Is there any place in the Raleigh/Durham area where I could run on sand, like any of the lakes?

You must be confused about your advice, telling me there's a greenway "by my house". I live off of Cary Parkway.11/30/2006 11:07:47 AM |

I'd rather avoid running on a road, thank you very much.
I've seen how most of the people drive...aka blond girls on cell phones, fat boys speeding to look cool, old people etc...and I'd rather NOT get hit by a CAR which is why I asked about TRAILS in the first place.

Do you know how to read? There is a greenway that goes from Lake Johnson to Trailwood, paralleling Avent Ferry. It is nowhere near Cary Parkway and I never said it was. Go take your attitude elsewhere. Look at the map again, because you obviously don't know what you're talking about.11/30/2006 5:59:30 PM |

Sidewalk...problem solved.
I hate people who decide to run on the road when there's a sidewalk.11/30/2006 7:31:00 PM |
