Anyone ever lived in Vegas? Not just visited. There are already a bunch of threads on fun stuff to do, hotels to stay in, etc. so I don't need info on that. I'm looking more for what it's like to live there, if the hot/dry thing sucks long-term, good places to live, cost of living, if the crime is bad, etc. Specifically near the UNLV campus. Thanks. 11/30/2006 10:47:52 PM |

I GREW UP THERE... what so you want to know?!?
IT is HOT, and DRY. it isnt as bad as you think. You kinda get use to it. live? well dont go to North LAs Vegas or live near the strip. I grw up in Greenvalley. Cost of living is getting worse. Houses are expensive as is rent. My friend pays 900 for a 1 bd apartment.
Crime? well it is like any other city. 11/30/2006 10:50:50 PM |

Damn, that's expensive. I think UNLV is actually right near the strip. What's wrong with the north part of the city? What's Greenvalley like? 11/30/2006 10:53:00 PM |

UNLV is near the strip/airport. I took some classes there during highschool. North LV is ghetto, ever watch COPS? that is mostly NLV.
Greenvalley is great, use to be the farthest south you could live and was the "richer" area. Now Seven Hills is where to live and is about 25 miles further out...
i got firends there that do it all, let me know I can ge tyou an apartment, mortgage and maybe a job 11/30/2006 10:56:04 PM |

i watched true life: i'm moving to las vegas on mtv one night and it looks like you can either work at hooters or live off your parents money to go clubbing at gay bars every night 11/30/2006 11:03:24 PM |

I'm not working at Hooters. Ever.
LV2state - Hmm...I wouldn't need a job (I'd be going there for grad school) but if you know of any good apartment complexes, please let me know! I wouldn't know for a while but I might get in touch with you if I end up going there. 12/1/2006 12:22:04 PM |

^^thanks for the link!
4 isn't too bad...I'd be interested in seeing which city has the highest rating and what their score is.
What are the people like out there? the locals, not the insane vacationers 12/1/2006 1:48:58 PM |

I just moved from Las Vegas. The place where we rented (Hampton Court, on Swenson Street) was ok, but not much more. No dishwasher, carpet wasn't the best. We had a two bedroom furnished with cable for $735 a month total. I heard, after I moved out there, that the neighborhood (Swenson St) isn't the best place to be, but in six months, we didn't have a problem. Also, the complex is surrounded by a brick wall which keeps random people from walking through.
Again, it wasn't the nicest place, but if money is tight, I'd check it out. 12/1/2006 3:31:14 PM |

wow, thats really not terrible at all.
after looking for a place out in arizona, i came to the conclusion that everything out in the desert was insanely expensive... but 735 is just "kinda high" 12/1/2006 4:16:20 PM |

cheap living near unlv's campus breeds more crime naturally. my girlfriend lives there and suggest that you live in Henderson. 12/1/2006 6:18:15 PM |

TKE-Teg Well I lived in Greenvalley and we were kind of in a bubble. I never saw a whole bunch of violence or crime. My neighbor once has his front seats of his maxima stolen by some lowrider gang. Gangs are around, Im talking hair net wearing, only the top button done shirt size 45 baggy pants wearing gangsters.
I use to play on the strip in highschool and its ok. Cops are everywhere on bikes and cars. There are also undercover cops in plain clothes walking around.
OpIvy what were you in Vegas for?

I lived there some years back....if you do move to Vegas you have to live by one rule. If you live there you can't act like a tourist. What I mean by that is you can't go in and gamble all the time. I saw too many people move there and act like they are there on vacation, and they ended up broke. I think you get my drift......But having said all that.....once you get used to the climate is a great place to live with a lot to do.... 12/2/2006 8:15:10 AM |

Cool, I'll look into Hamptom Court, and Henderson. Of course nothing's at all certain at this point - I just want to know what people think of living in the area.
Yeah gambling all the time sounds pretty retarded. Good to hear some positive comments though!
