So, Webb acted like a douche when Bush expressed concern for his son? 12/1/2006 3:36:31 PM |

Webb sounds like a total douche.

Basically he used the fact that his son is a marine to help his campaign while trying to make it seem like he wasn't.12/1/2006 3:56:16 PM |

I have no idea about the guys political views and its quite alright to want to keep your son out of the spotlight. A simple "I'd prefer not to discuss it Mr. President" would have been fine. 12/1/2006 4:03:29 PM |

I think both parties handled it poorly, since Webb's snide comment is definitely a slap in the face, but at least he made an effort not to bring the subject up in the first place. Webb didn't want to talk to Bush period, much less his son's service in Iraq. Bush went out of his way to find Webb AND had the call to ask him about his son, which show's a lack of class considering Bush knows damn well Webb doesn't like the fact he's over there. Webb left the Republican party largely over this issue. Bush asked a loaded question and got smacked down for it. I have no sympathy for him.12/1/2006 6:24:06 PM |

Honestly, does anyone Iraq want to be there? Bush wasn't being an ass. Webb wasn't being an ass with the way he responded. Webb getting out of there and finding the closest reporter to cry to....yeah that was an douche bag like move 12/2/2006 12:53:12 AM |

Webb's response was appropriate and sincere. This is a man who took grenade shrapnel in the back in Vietnam to save a comrade. He knows where his son is and what he's going through.
Ultimately President Bush, the progenitor of the war, owes an unpayable debt to every man and woman he's sent to Iraq. That is the solemn burden of any war-time President. And it is a debt to their parents as well.
I don't think Bush acted inappropriately in speaking to Webb; but Webb's response was definitely his right. War is Hell.12/6/2006 5:22:15 AM |

It was also inappropriate, unrelated, and self serving.
What if I had a cook out and asked a guest how their chicken was cooked?
Only a douche would respond with "Well I wanted a filet" and then tell everyone how they told me off for not having filet at my cook out.
And yes, that it is one of the worst comparisons ever made on TWW.12/6/2006 4:52:13 PM |

Webb going to the press and saying something like "Well he asked about my son who is in Iraq right now, he's a marine, was inappropriate, because everyone knows I would never use my son as a political tool" is such shit though
