The Suck (1) > [ . . . . . x . . . . ] < Awesome (10)
I would have to rate this year a 6.
It was better than last year (and 2005 was better than 2004) but there are still a lot of things that did not work out so well.
And for memory sake: /message_topic.aspx?topic=375305 12/1/2006 8:19:39 PM |

Less than a month left (92% over), it shouldn't be so hard to make an assessment.
It would be awesome to have something spectacular happen at the end of this year but I would probably file that under "2007." I am just ready for this year to be over, I have actually caught myself writing '07 on stuff. (which is ... odd) 12/1/2006 8:24:47 PM |

So far I'd give it a 9, because there were some things that I got to do this year that I have wanted to do for a long time
but there are still things left undone 12/1/2006 8:56:48 PM |

This year I graduated with a philosophy degree, moved to a nicer area, got a full time job, got notice that I'll be published in the URJ, met alot of new people, made alot of new friends, got a digital camera, may yet get a new car & a wii within the year, and I got to see my political party do better than they have in a long time. 12/1/2006 9:05:06 PM |

Overall, I'd say it's been an 9.
This year I've transferred to a new school to complete my PhD, gained tons more responsibility and authority at work (I'm the lead researcher now), and got a pretty good raise.
I met my current girlfriend, who has been a godsend to me and my family as I went through some troubled times. I did lose my eye and totaled my car, but that's just a mere inconvenience. My parents have once again this year been an invaluable source of care, support, and motivation. 12/1/2006 9:45:24 PM |

um...i'd say...maybe a 7.... I stayed out of jail so far, met some new friends, didn't pick up any stds, made some money, lost some money, lost my digital camera but i'm hoping for a new one for christmas, and ecu is going to a bowl game... yeah a 7 works. 12/1/2006 9:56:42 PM |

Definately a 9. I got a new job, moved in with my gf, and just bought a house.

best year so far. def a 9. i've made awesome friends in a new area, i love my job (just got a promotion a few days ago too), making lots more money than ever and should have all my cc debt paid off by the end of the year. my wife is a semester away from graduating and we're both healthy.
2007 should be exciting with likely another move and grad school for maybe both of us. 12/1/2006 10:28:00 PM |

The first six months or so of this year were, honestly, some of the worst in my entire life. I was having a really rough time due to a number of things that I don't care to mention here, and life was just generally horrible. The second half has been way better. I've lost a lot of weight, which, honestly, solves about ten problems in and of itself. I've been fairly productive in certain areas in which I've focused, but I didn't accomplish some things I wanted to in certain others. This thread is actually a good reminder of the shit I still have to get done.
It's been a very good year at work, numbers-wise, although there are some things I could have done better or done differently. I've had this job for two years as of yesterday, and I can honestly say that when I took this job I didn't expect it to last for two months. I'm pretty happy with the direction that things are going here, but at the same time, I can't work here for the rest of my life.
I've made a couple of friends, but nothing lasting, really, and I still don't have anybody I see a lot that I'm really close with. It seems like I never replace the people that move away or that I otherwise lose touch with. Hopefully this will change in the future. I've been a lot more outgoing in the past few months, and I plan on being even more so in the next few. My love life sucks.
So, yeah. All in all, this year was kind of a wash, but that things really are looking up. We'll see how the next month goes...
p.s. yo homes to Bel Aire. 12/1/2006 10:39:29 PM |

In the beginning of the year I got rid on an ex boyfriend who was just dragging me down emotionally. I also started dating my current boyfriend who is very supportive and loving. I've let him really open me up, I've learned if you work hard, you have to play hard. Since January I've also started to like beer, which is totally different from before. I got my career path going with two internships and now I have another internship (this one pays) @ red hat. I'm finally finished with school so that's great, and I hope in 2007 I become more independent and self-sustaining. 12/2/2006 8:34:54 AM |

i've still got alot of personal stuff to work on, and i'm still alone. Regardless, my life has direction so I guess that's saying something, and the family is as supportive as ever. 12/2/2006 8:48:31 AM |

MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY!
First half, I was teaching at Clayton High School.. I absolutely hated every minute of my life then.
Now, I work IT for Duke and I love it so much. I enjoy my job and I don't dread coming to work every morning.
My son turns 1 on Dec. 4th.. in just two days. Wow! this year FLEW by.12/2/2006 8:51:58 AM |

First part pretty much blew, sorta. Was working at Enterprise and fucking HATED IT and my life there. 1 Quit that shit in like April/May +1 and got another job +2. Better, but boring and pay didn't pan out as expected -1. Found out my girl was pregnant with number 2 in the summer +2. Then started working at the job I've always wanted, IT. +3 Its in a school system, so the pay ain't great, but the hours rock and the benefits are stellar. I love going to work now. Honestly caught myself yesterday saying "Damn if this was Thursday I could come in tomorrow and fix this lab. Guess I gotta wait till Monday though ". I know I'm a dork. So things are on the career track I want, and I couldn't be happier in that respect. My wife is 6 months pregnant though and prone to mood swings at times so thats a bit of a bummer -.5 .
Running total 7.5. Sounds about correct 12/2/2006 9:55:26 PM |

I've gotta say, I have to rate this year at about 0.5
But it's better than last year, which was somewhere around -17396 and was damn near the worst year of my life.
I honestly don't know why I didn't end it last year. I'm kind of glad I didn't but I'm not out of that rut yet. 12/18/2006 9:57:06 PM |

Pros: Lots of job experience, family's doin good, haven't died from diabetes, prospects looking better and better at school, and I've made good contacts at a major local construction company that wants me to work for them.
Cons: Second half of the year has thrown my health into the gutter, DOT got me stuck in a rut of sinus infections, past month I went from sinus infections to bad infusion sites to terrible stomach sickness to injuring myself in a fairly unpleasant way, I'll still be working retail through at least next may.
This year was slightly worse than last year in some ways and better than it in others. I just want next year to come up and make this year go away. 12/19/2006 1:36:26 AM |
