what do you guys recommend? looking at getting one or asking for it for christmas. cheap is good, but i'd rather spend more and not have to worry about any problems down the road.

Key phrase there. Unless you're into heavy production, there's probably no need to blow a ton of money on it.

Or you could just use the one here for a minimal fee of....beer.

we had one of them cheap fuckers at school (metco i think) it worked great i think it came from northern

I bought a smaller delta a few years ago and was a little disappointed in the gear mechanism used to adjust the height up and down.

I can't remember exactly what I did, but I think I had the drill platform locked in place, then tried to adjust it and it cracked the teeth where the platform rides up and down. I mean it was totally my fault, but no more force than I put on it shouldn't have done the damage it did.

you should get one of those benchtop milling machines instead of just a drill press
