I have 3 businesses and they all need quick, simple but decent looking websites.

I am in graphic design so i'd like to get something i can do myself or pick up relatively quickly.

I have messed around with hiring people and getting friends, etc. to help and i can't wait any longer.

I use WordPress (it's free), which uses PHP+MySQL.

They have many different templates that are easy to install, and I've been able to easily strip away the blog-related components in templates to make the site look more like a business page.

Simple to install and very easy to administer.

I second (or thrid...) dfshadow and srvora.
One of the fastest and easiet ways to get a good looking, useful site up and running is to
1) install wordpress http://wordpress.org/
2) find and install a theme you like. there are thousands of them, so you can find something you like in general, which can be tweaked later for your needs

if you need special functions, look around in the WP Plugins. you can add a lot of functionality this way
