http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_flash_drive
Quote : | "Like all flash memory devices, flash drives can sustain only a limited number of write and erase cycles before failure. Mid-range flash drives under normal conditions will support several hundred thousand cycles, although write operations will gradually slow as the device ages." |
Food for thought, flash drives don't last forever...12/7/2006 2:42:36 AM |

^^^ you won't see a 1gb flash drive free after rebates from best buy in the next year...it doesn't happen...they do, however, have 256mb and 512mb drives free after mail-in sometimes
^ nothing lasts forever...but lexar isn't a no-name brand
just for the sake of perspective, let's say it will only last 100,000 cycles...let's also say the average user uses it 10 times a day, every single day (MOST people don't use it nearly that much)...but that would mean the average lifespan of a flash drive is more than 27 YEARS
this one still has a good 26 years left on it...just food for thought
^^ that was the number i was looking for...it's yours if you want to pick it up 12/7/2006 9:09:50 AM |
