Ok, not sure whether this is going to get better results in tech or entertainment... but regardless:

I'm looking for an online program that lets you pay a flat fee per month to legally download music and play it on your iPod. From what I'm thinking iTunes is pay per song, and I really am not interested in doing that. Now that napster has converted, they're not compatible with iTunes. Any suggestions? Is there really even something that exists for what I'm looking for or am I stuck with paying per song?

why ballsy? I hated the program when it was basically free sharing for all, it was really crappy and never worked.

Rhapsody's subscription program is awesome. Although you can't use it on the iPod, their Sansa player is really nice.

while everyone will proceed to hate on ipods,

it sounds like you just went out and bought an ipod with no thought to the type of use you were going to give your device

and probably bought the ipod because everyone and their mom has one (including me and my mom)

i think you deserve to have your problem, because if you weren't smart enough to figure this out prior, or didnt have a substantial music collection already with which to import,

sucks for ya!

The only legally downloaded songs that will play on the iPod must be purchased from the iTunes Music Store.
None of those other ones (Rhapsody, the new Napster, etc) will natively play on iPods.

^^ thank you for taking the time to write all of that just so I can label you as biggest tool of the day

I bought my two iPods years ago before they were all the rage, and I'm still happy with my purchase today. I already have a huge collection, but I'm looking for a better way to get NEW music. I don't intend to buy a new player to do that when I like what I have.

Oh also, here's to you having the most useless post of this thread so far - ass.

if you've had your ipods for years you should be fully aware of how they function and that what you're asking to do is not possible based on the apple music acquisition business model

I use eMusic, $15/month for 40 downloads.

.37 much better than .99 a song

you could figure out that she asked for legal sources to download music. The vast majority of torrented stuff is illegal, unless she's into a lot of live shows (which might still be illegal, but no one cares about them).

Bob Ryan screams of the desire to be labeled as a douche-bag...

- from mp3rocket's site makes me think that it may not be entirely legal... they're just covering their butt by encouraging you not to download or share copyright material...

http://www.emusic.com sells legal, non-DRM mp3 files that should work on iPods.

Their selection is all indie-label stuff, I think, so maybe not best for most pop artists, but they do have a pretty huge selection of music, including a lot of major artists that have chosen to stay on smaller labels.

learn how to search the internet for the tools you need to convert filetype a to filetype b and say FUCK YOU to copy-protection

other than that i'm very pleased with itunes, though their tv show/movie selection needs DRASTIC improvement, what is all this horseshit disney shit?
