I've got a piece of plastic and a trouble light on a tractor motor right now. It wouldn't run long enough to circulate the antifreeze.

Put a new plug on the block heater.

Topped off the antifreeze.

I hope she turns in the morning. All in all, that Cummins has hit every time in cold weather. Just like that. It helps that the Bosch VE injector pump goes to full fueling when shut down. So the engine gets a full throttle kick for a brief second on startup.

block heaters are awesome. if for nothing else, the nearly instant heat. no freezing your butt off till the engine warms up.

The bad thing is, I think my block heater is fuXORed.

I checked the resistance across the plug after I got it on, and it read infinity. Like it's burned out.

I plugged it in anyway. Maybe I'll be proven wrong in the morning, but a heating element like that should have registerable resistance especially using a multimeter with a 2M ohm range. So I'm thinking totally open circuit. Dammit. I'm looking online as we speak to try to get a replacement.

Full fuel. Not full RPMs. Engine never revs that high at all. Just a puff of smoke, a brief surge, and she settles down to idle.

shit i've been reading say the block heater will throw a cel if used above 0 degrees on the new LBZ duramax. don't know why. doesn't make much sense to me on why it would.
