Anyone else see it this weekend?

I thought it was pretty good, especially the first half. The way the crew re-created the Mayan city/temple was amazing. Very gory as well. Looks like they did a good amount of research while making this film, but I'm sure some people will nitpick it to death.

The second half is a lot like the old film The Naked Prey, but instead of showing how you could die in the deserts/grasslands of Africa, Apocalypto likes to show how pretty much everything in the jungles of Central America could kill you. This part of the film requires some suspension of disbelief (when you see it, you'll know).

But overall I liked it.

I went to see it and thought it was a fairly good movie...it did have subtitles, and that really fucked me up the first 20 min of the movie b/c I killed a few whiskey drinks RIGHT before I walked in the movies. I don't see any reason for anyone to bitch about them unless you're a complete fucktard. Really not a bad movie after you get used to/block out all of the mayans in thongs type things. It was a graphic movie, but I kinda liked that about it...it was raw as hell.

This movie is incredible. Mel Gibson is an awesome film maker. I don't care for his private life, but he can make movies. Very graphic, like...Braveheart, and of course Passion of the Christ.

I saw it. Its one of those movies that's good and has a good story and shows a lot of good history, but you never want to see again. its not for the faint of heart.

I thought it was fantastic. Very well done! After hearing how brutal and gory it was I built myself up for that, but really I didn't think it was as bad as has been said. I'd see it again for sure.

I thought this movie was awesome. One thing irked me though for others that have also seen it.

Spoiler alert-

How in the hell did that pit the woman and child were in fill up so quickly with water? It would take over a week of rain to fill up that high.

^YES! I thought the same thing.

And, also what pissed me off is the fake jaguar scene.

i thought it was great. very raw. the detail of the movie is unbelievable. the violence is graphic but that is what mel gibson seems to love.

I agree with this for the most part. Much like Cannibal Holocaust in that the violence is of such a heavy and depressing quality it really puts me in a funky mood. I usually love gore but it's not the kind of gore you watch to enjoy.

You know, the gore wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, still gruesome, but for some reason, I expected more. Perhaps it's just a sign of how desensitized I am to this type of thing...

Pretty good movie. After reading this thread, I went in expecting the worst as far as gore and didn't end up thinking it was that bad. My wife couldn't watch it though.
