I am having a very hard time finding a resonable fix for an exaust leak in my car. I purchased the car a few months ago and was probably given the problem from the place a bought it from. The leak is coming from the header and it is not any of the four pipes coming from the manifold. The header is an aftermarket stainless, but I do not know the brand. The leak comes from a tube coming out from the last pipe on the header closest to firewall. It is curved at about a 45 degree angle and is a few inches long. There is supposed to be some sort of hose to connect around to the back of the intake manifold where there is an identical 45 degree pipe, both about 5/8 around. Ive tried a silicon hose supposedly for the exaust, but they keep burning through? Any idea on what I need to fix this loud problem???

take it to an exhaust shop like Henry's or Bob's muffler and they should be able to fix it 12/10/2006 5:10:58 PM |

Sounds like you need to get an EGR crossover tube. I do not know if the stock one will work, but you've got to get something in there. My suggestion is that you start browsing some online performance parts places and see if you can find what looks to be your header. See if they offer the crossover tube. Order that motherfucker. Yeah, there's no way in hell a silicone tube will handle that temp. Silicone is good to 700 degrees tops, and usually only to around 450 for any period of time. Yer gonna have to do better than that, because I guarantee those temps are 1000 degrees or higher, especially under heavy load.
I seriously doubt either Henry or Bob will have the materials to fab that tube; it's just too small, and it likely uses a flare nut fitting on either end. Now if both tubes you're trying to connect are straight tubes with nothing else on them, you can try to find some metal tube and use a compression union to tie them together. 12/10/2006 7:56:41 PM |

What I need is what material to use to connect it. There is not a place that you can just screw something in on either end to connect them. I dont see what purpose it has anyways, which is why Ive thought about just getting them sealed. I took it to a muffler shop and they were trying to tell me it would be about 250 in labor just to fix it because they have to take the header off and all this stuff....I can buy a new header for not much more than that and put it on myself. It just seems like there should be an easier way. Im just worried if I seal them off it wont pass emissions for some reason even though there is no O2 sensor there. Anyways, hope someone might know what Im talking about.... 12/11/2006 10:49:35 PM |

They are straight tubes with nothing else on them. What is a compression union?? 12/11/2006 10:52:08 PM |

I have gone to the dealer but its aftermarket and they dont have anything to work. The thing is, Im pretty good with fixing stuff when it goes wrong, but this is a simple thing....I know where its coming from, I know what it will sound like when it is hooked up with the silicon, but the silicon just melts away. There must be a simple fix for this. All I have to do is connect two small pipes about a foot apart with something that can handle a lot of heat. Simple problem, but seems like a problem only NASA could solve from the looks I get when I ask someone about it. 12/11/2006 10:57:50 PM |

Its not exactly what I have. It doesnt have a fitting like the one shown. Its literally just a L shaped 5/8 inch pipe that has no particular fitting. 12/12/2006 11:22:00 AM |

Its easy if you have a lift so I can take it off from the exaust, but I dont. Im just getting a new header and it will come with the part and it will be shinny and pretty and all that. Im just tired of fucking with it. 12/14/2006 4:48:16 PM |
