At this point you might as well just leapfrog RC2 and just get the release.

is RC2 better on games? no lag or choppyness when anti-aliasing is turned on?

Is Vista really gonna be worth the hefty price tag for a 64 bit machine versus XP 64 in the next 6 months? year?

i'm really liking Vista and i'm running it on a AMD 64x2 4800+....photoshop opens and is ready to use in under 6 seconds and when you close photoshop, it closes instantly.

I have played quite a few like WoW and such.

I do have a 128meg video card on it, so I get to use Aero. This is a laptop I use.

with the amount of bugs that were evident in XP when it was first released, i would wait a good solid 5-6 months before switching over. by that time, full driver support should be widely available for everything. plus, i'm sure microsoft will need to distribute a shit load of patches each week in the initial release phases.

I'm at a crossroads. I'm upgrading my hard disk, vid card, and processor to faster/better in the next weeks. And I am going to take this opportunity to reformat. I was going to hold out for Vista but it might be 1 year before it is friendly enough to switch to. Are they offering free upgrades if I purchase XP 64? Should I just stick with basic XP?

Wow. I've got a Vista system up and running. I haven't had any problems with drivers. No show stopping bugs. The reason not to get Vista now should be the fact that there aren't enough new features to justify the price of the upgrade. Just wait until PC games require DirectX 10.

For how I use my computer:

Vista = XP with Windowblinds

What's the deal with music and such? I've always ripped my CD's onto my computer so I have close to 50gb of music. What's the dealio with it's DRM management within Vista? Last thing I want is it saying "please insert original CD".

I've read a bunch seeing how to circumvent it, but would rather hear from people who actually used it.

^^Just to make an equivalent argument:

The way I use my transporation:

Toyota Camry = Ford Pinto with a Body Kit.

Something being BETTER isn't always from ADDING things. Lots of things have fundamentally changed in Vista, so no, there aren't a lot of "new features". It's an operating system, not a video game.

A new feature that I'd LOVE to see "added" to an OS is running with less than 80MB of RAM.

So I'll stick with my Ford Pinto body kit that gets 100mpg over the Toyota Camry that gets 5mpg until they finally do the factory recall on the Pinto. Thanks.

Yea drop the Toyota camry and ford Pinto bullshit.

Those examples are way worse then even I could come up with.

So bottom line, for the casual computer user that isn't a hardcore gamer - including bittorent, web surfer, occasional gamer, dvd shrinker, flac encoder, but otherwise doesn't get his jollies off on Aero or being all "hard core" about his machine...is the benefit to have this soon worth it, or just wait for awhile?

some people will have a different opinion, but mine is still bottom line: wait for a while and let the rest of the world catch up with vista before switching over
