We all have that one application that we can’t live without. It’s the first thing we look at in the morning, and the last one we use before we shut down for the day. It’s always on our minds, and always open on our computers.

What is the one application that you can’t live without? Email applications are a given, so we’ll take that one out of the running. So let's talk about the one you really can’t live without, and how it makes your day better, and more productive.

MS Money - i only open it once a day (no need for leaving it open all the time), but it tracks every single account I have down to the cent. It drives me crazy if i go more than a couple days without updating my accounts.

close 2nd - Excel. Use it for so many things

HoeKey (custom, global keyboard shortcuts for launching programs, running commands, etc.)

e.g. - Winkey + I: launches Firefox, Winkey + O: launches Outlook, etc. (not like those combos were doing anything in the first place)

Do you "Sync" your Money program with your checking/savings/credit card accounts/investment accounts? I'm assuming you have to download excel files or something from your account providers to import into Money right? Or is it a mix of these imports for certain accounts and maual entry for other accounts? How do you manage this?

most major banks are set up with MS so that MS Money can automatically download transactions into your Money account. It'll even auto-categorize based on historical trends, saves a LOT of time for me

Either Visual Studio .NET 2003 or Visual Studio 6. I spend more time programming than I do on the internet.

For me, definitely ActiveSync and Notepad

Autocopy extension for FireFox is a must have for me.

Though you have to adjust that anytime you highlight something it will overwrite what you are trying to paste in.

Also anything with tabbed browsing.

usually, no. If find that if I stay on top of all my accounts, and update Money every day, or go no longer than 3 days, with receipts and purchases, then update it whenever I get statements or bills, then I do it all by hand. Usually I enter everything into my main checking account by hand, then every 2-3 days I check the account online and mark items that I've entered into Money that have cleared the bank as "Cleared". That way I can keep Money and my Bank Account synced throughout the month. Then of course when i get my statement I mark them all as "Reconciled".
Another big reason to do it this way is to avoid bank mistakes. If I enter everything by hand, then when I go to Clear or Reconcile everything, I can easily see charged in the account that I don't recognize or that I don't have a receipt for. If I just downloaded big batches of transactions, it would be easy to miss errors
