I've gotten some questions about hiking the Appalachian Trail, so I wrote an article about "Thru-hiking on the Cheap." I just had a shoestring budget for both my Appalachian Trail thru-hike and Mississippi River Expedition, and every dollar had to count. This is a work in progress, so check it out and let me know what you think.

That's great advice. I hope to go do that sometime in the next few years. [Add to My Topics] 12/18/2006 6:56:24 PM |

I'd love to get out on another long trip sometime, but reality is kicking my ass right now. Maybe something in either '09 or '10. I'm doing something in '10 come hell or high water though. I made a deal with myself to do something cool every five years when I finished the AT in 2000. '10 might be set aside for taking a year off to build a house, or it might be another trip.
I love planning and talking about this sort of stuff, so feel free to give me a holler with any questions about paddling or backpacking.
