This is a game that I played throughout high school. It used to be the best game I ever played, period. It was more popular than everquest ever was in terms of people who played and did not have the gay role playing nerds. Despite that it never got any press and was really only known to people through word of mouth and spread through message board communities. Almost everyone who has played it or plays it now will probably tell you that it is/was the best game ever.

It did go downhill though. Some new people came into the company who produces the game about 4 years ago and fucked it up pretty bad (i mean worse than george bush fucking it up). They basically told about half of their customers to fuck off for some reason i don't understand. Basically, they tried to make the game more politically correct by giving stupid people advantages they didn't need and also attempted to control everything economically (they made ebay take down all item/account selling, jacked up prices, and made people buy expansions). They eventually started doing a little better, but are still stupid as hell when it comes to giving the players what they want.

Anyways, the only smart thing they did in a while was to do a free trial. If you want to check it out the trial link is below. It's pretty fun still even though it got fucked up. I might help you out if you like the game and i start playing again. The trial is 14 days. You have to put in your credit card #, but they won't charge anything if you cancel before the 14 days are up (it's only $13 per month anyways). It's really easy to cancel (just log in online and cancel). It's worth checking out if you are bored with the games you are playing. The gameplay is really really fast in pvp (probably 4 to 5 times faster than counter strike) and there is alot of freedom of movement, which is one reason for it being the best game ever made. There used to be fights in which 100+ players were fighting in the same area, some affiliated into big guilds, and others being more independent. It used to be that the lag would slow everything down, but there arent enough people to make the servers lag anymore. The new developers made some changes that slow things down some and restrict movement (people too stupid to figure things out complained), but there are ways to skirt those changes a little. It's also really addictive because there is always tons of shit to do and there are updates every month that often change the game balance. Definitely worth checking out in my opinion.

also, for you WoW guys, i would say that AC at least was once a better game. WoW is decent, but it is so slow compared to AC. AC is also largely dependent on skill, where WoW is based on skill much less of the time.

I know alot of people from AC who now play WoW too, and i'm guessing some of the bigger factions in WoW are made up of old AC players because there were very intense wars in AC that created very tight knit groups of players. these players then went onto other games when they couldn't stand the developers destroying the game (shadowbane, doac, wc3, CS, WoW, etc.)

another thing i should mention is that the game area is huge. the land mass is the size of rhode island (literally, the area of land of the main land piece is that size). thankfully, you can run very fast and there are portals to many many places now (there used to not be alot and runs were very very difficult because of the insane amount/type of monsters lol). the communication systems are also very good and there are areas that everyone goes to which encourages fighting and fun.

yeah the company who makes the game (turbine) used to be part of microsoft. then turbine bought the game away from microsoft after they turned it into a POS.

It's pretty common for someone who has really gotten into the community of a game and been around it for a while to not like changes made.

I personally love the game Far Cry. It is about two years old now, but I still love it. With the latest patch, Ubisoft "fucked it up" by most in the community's standards because they made sweeping changes to some of the fundamental physics. The fact is, the changes weren't a big deal for someone who had never played it, but these guys that had been playing it for 2+ years and gotten used to the way things functioned were pissed.


btw.. you can get Far Cry for $10 at Wal-Mart now. Still one of the most visually stunning games out there after 2 and a half years. I would highly recommend it.

lol man, AC was before EQ, and outdated by the time EQ came out I might add. But I would say EQ was more popular back in the day at it's peak (Velious era).

^^^^^lol, visually stunning. AC never had great graphics. it always had the best gameplay. graphics are for nubs.
