People flooded the market, and since you can't get ps3's except through ebay most people are focusing on WII's.

According to http://nexgenwars.com/ , the PS3 has sold approximately 480,000 units. With 22,000 of those units on eBay right now, that means 4.6% of all PS3's that have been released are currently on eBay.

Wonder what the % would be for all the PS3's that made it to eBay.

That would make an interesting study. I remember looking initially the first night after. I think there was something like 60,000 matches. Even when you weed out the bogus PS3 email address entries, I would imagine that some 50,000 units, or about 10%, were on eBay. This is only going to hurt Sony in the long run if a significant chunk of the units they've sold are just being passed around by people trying to make a quick buck. Instead of building hype for the machine, all that's being built is the hype for its costm

keep in mind that some of the 21000+ items in that search are lots of 10+ ps3's. Not many of them of course, but meh.

And what kind of moron throws together a package like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/EXTREME-PK-15-Playstation-3-PS3-15-Nintendo-Wii_W0QQitemZ260066499683QQihZ016QQcategoryZ62054QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

30 consoles WELL above market value. Hell, the average console and TMX Elmo cost from that package is well above the highest selling prices on ebay even.

They already had the number saying that less than 1 game was sold per console...something like for every 1 ps3 sold there was .8 or .9 ps3 games sold...so obviously most of them are going straight to ebay

.9 games per console gives you MOST going straight to ebay? I think the 10% estimations sound a bit more realistic than "most."

well ok, what I mean is that if I'm getting a ps3, I would think that I would get at least 3 or 4 games with it

If they aren't even selling 1 game per console, that says more than 10% are going

um, 22k is nothing. people like me, who sold one on ebay the first day they came out (actually 2) will tell you there were around 45k listed. so i'd put it that close to around 40-50% of all the ps3s sold have at one point found there way onto ebay

wow.

i actually JUST had a friend call telling me that he was in walmart and over the loud speaker they announced they had PS3's in stock (10), so he jumped in line to get one and has no intention on keeping it... sad really...

i just think that with the xbox releases / ipod releases, the ebay prices have been a LOT more profitable than the PS3's.... a better ebay search (if they had the option) would be to search for all the "Unsold" items or "Relisted Items"

^ Heh, well he'll be sad when he see's the Ebay PS3 auctions rolling off at around 40-80 bucks above cost. After having paid sales tax and the relevent ebay and or paypal fees, he's not going to be clearing much of a profit.
