I am in the market for a Jeep Wrangler TJ Sahara and I am going to get any potential seller to put thier car through one of my mechanics inspections. Do you think that the mechanic will be able to find anything?

Also, if anyone is good at looking at these kind of jeeps for potentail problems, please speek up. The last thing I want to do is get stuck with a POS that breaks down all of the time.

Thanks

I have owned 4 jeeps and I loved them all. But if you're looking for reliable daily driver, I would go for something else. If you're looking for a 'toy', then it's an ok choice.

The last one I had was a '00 TJ Sahara. I got rid of that one as soon as the warranty was up and said "never again" (for the third time). The previous ones were '83 CJ, '86 CJ (favorite), and '88 YJ.

With the first three, I thought of it as a labor of love until I got tired of it keeping me broke with repairs. I reasoned that the quality would be better for the TJ since it was no longer AMC. I was wrong. Within 15k miles, rear axle had to be replaced. By 25k miles, the transmission.

Here's the thing: I still love them and I would love to have a new Rubicon Unlimited. I just have to remind myself that it's not worth the headache and expense.

From what I hear, you should approach Land Rover with the same caution.

LOOK FOR A CRACK IN THE HEADER.

Later model 4.0s had problems w/ header cracks

if you are planning to go offroad the rubicon is a better deal
(dana 44 vs 35 lockers etc.)

my shit isn't broken down .............yet

if i were you i'd try to get a manual 6 cylinder w/ the dana 44 in the rear. or a rubicon. as sumfoo1 said, the 4.0s have had problems with the exhaust manifolds cracking.

do you work on cars at all? just wondering.

4500 lbs > 3200 lbs. The D44 in a Ram is hardly anything to brag about.
