Any advice on them?

Are they quality?

Anything I should watch out for?

owned 2

I bought the first gen that came out, was good lasted about 4 years until my mom left it in a drawer, then it killed it (unless you hold it up to a light bulb)

The last one i got is good.

Lesssons ive learned, dont let them run flat, i guess it might damage the battery.

I have a Citizen EcoDrive, the solar powered, titanium one. It's superlight and durable. I surf, sail, etc. without problems. Next test will be scuba, but it says 20bar, so I should be good.

Mine was $495, but if you go to a privately owned jewelry store, you can generally talk them down on the price. Also wait until 2007 (like a week) and it'll be "last years model."

I've got a seiko kinetic and it's not all that great. sometimes seiko makes crap and doesn't support it.

just got a new eco-drive (crimmus). it's pretty sweet so far.

I bought my boyfriend a Citizen Eco thing...whatever it was, it ran off of sunlight. The actual watch works great, but the band breaks about every 6 months and costs 40 bucks to fix. I bought it from Kay (I don't know if there are other places or not), but if you are buying from there, get that warranty thing because otherwise, its 40 bucks every time the band breaks.

mine has a steel band so i hope it doesn't break.

the warranty is $100, that's silly.

i hope this citizen is better than my seiko. the seiko has a capacitor and band issue.

it looks nice and still works well though.

i got my ecodrive for a present in May of 2003 and have had it ever since. The watch works great. The only problem is that the clasp on the band has worn down and comes undone sometimes. I'm sure the jewelry store that I got it from can fix this, just have never taken the time to do so.

I have one. I stopped wearing it for several months and I think the cell in it is dead. I've tried to reset the thing but it just won't work anymore. If I ever buy a watch again I'll get a perpetual watch like the Seiko Kinetic line.

Never had an eco-drive, but I've worn a seiko kinetic for a few years now. Never had a problem with it at all.

if you stop wearing a seiko, it'll do the same thing.

batteries don't like being empty for a long time, unless you make sure they are 100% full before you put it away.

With the kinetic watches you don't have to worry about a solar cell going bad.

i highly doubt the solar cell went bad, though i could happen. the 5 year warranty on the citizen makes up for it in my opinion.

i've had my kinetic for <4 years, but the capacitor isn't holding up as well as it should be.

of course i can pay $100 and have the capacitor replaced with a new unit, but why?

Seiko has a super fun thing going with this whole "kinetic" thing.... it took over 80 new patents in the 1990s when they were first produced to make them.
It's a combination of both worlds.... it has a rotor like an automatic, but instead of powering the watch my winding a coil into the mainspring (like a Swiss automatic does.... Rolex, Tag, Omega, Breitling, etc) it charges a cell, similar to a battery. Auto- Relays are definitely cool, and the technology on Seiko, in my humble opinion, is better for the money you're spending.
Either way, they're both decent watches for Japanese Movement pieces. Until you're ready to move into the Swiss world, it's a better than decent way to go.
