Is there any way to set it up so that enrollment certification, academic honors and confirmation of degrees earned are public but phone, email and address are private? Looking in PackTracks it doesn't seem possible. WTF? Why can't I make my public information public and keep my private information hidden? I get enough spam.
Do I need to give the school fake contact info and then make my profile public? 12/27/2006 6:36:07 PM |

The email you give to the university may be used by professors to contact you, usually with important information. I always get a few bounced emails when I email a large section of students, and I have no sympathy if someone doesn't know, for example, that I allow a 3x5 card of handwritten information during the final exam. If it's announced in class and sent to officially registered emails, then everyone in my class should know.
If you are concerned, I suggest just putting on the privacy block. 12/27/2006 7:34:47 PM |

yeah i agree, its rediculous that you can't have have honors, such as the deans list, published without your whole entire address made public. I actually said something to R&R and they said there is nothing they can do about it. 12/28/2006 12:30:20 AM |

alright look, if there are thousands of other people out there that dont have all their stuff privacy blocked, aparently it cant be that bad. if you want your honors and whatever else it is, you go by their rules, get over it. 12/28/2006 2:59:43 AM |

If you are REALLY concerned over this issue, you can make it happen. Ask for an appointment with the director (or dean or whomever) of R&R explaining your concern over this issue. You probably aren't the only one out there. Don't expect any action or change to be instantaneous though ... could take anywhere from 3-12 months before anything happens.12/28/2006 10:38:41 AM |

So basically what I'm hearing is the university is not willing to be reasonable and keep my contact info private unless I do a full block.
If I have to "go by their rules", I guess they also want me to use my gmail account for school email and change my permanent address to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave and my local address to 201 North Blount St. Any suggestions for my phone number? RPD? 12/28/2006 3:44:56 PM |

very true there is nothing we can do about it when the system we currently use. there is hope when we implement peoplesoft in a year or so that you will be able to block parts of your information and not others.
i make no promises, though.
and as far as your phone number goes ... we have many a student with (555) 555-5555 or (123) 456-7890 12/28/2006 10:01:36 PM |

so does deans list and all that jazz not get listed publicly if you are on privacy block or does it just now show up for your info card?
I'm confused and someone give me the rundown on this 12/29/2006 5:06:04 PM |

if you have a FULL privacy block then we will not post your name online for dean's list nor will we print it in the graduation booklet when you graduate.
if you have a web or web/directory block we will print it.
using a lower form of block such as web or web/directory would be the best way to go. your contact information is not posted online or in the printed directory but your name will still show up when you receive honors. AND we will still be able to do a enrollment certification for you. 12/30/2006 8:44:11 AM |
