I don't know if most of you were aware, or if it's been posted, but according to most of the reports out so far, Saddam won't make it through the weekend.

This kinda disappeared after the conviction, but justice is swift in Iraq.

hanging him now will only worsen the violence.

he should be imprisoned till the country is stable, and then executed.

but then again, we can't expect the americans or the current iraqis in charge to do anything sensible for the country, can we?

What the fuck are you trying to say here?

OEP, I kinda agree with you that they should wait until the country is stabilized, but how will you know when the country is stabilized enough? Waiting might become a moral morass that they're stuck in.

I think it might be good to get rid of him now only because there may be violence now because of it, but, in my eyes, it's kind of like going through the bad times to get to the better times.

Also, one more thing it really pisses me off when people group "Americans" into one big clump about the Iraq war. I don't agree with the war or the tactics going on there and it really pisses me off when people assume that I am an American that I stand with Bush.

You mean kinda like how you assumed OEP was qualified to speak for Americans as a whole? They cant be taken seriously if you actually acknowledge someone who says "Americans..." and then give a rant like someone on TWW is all mighty.

And Im sure MOST people associate this to the gallop poles that are done weekly to track public sentiment.

IMO - It will only raise the violence that would be spread out over time anyways. It might increase the violence now, but not the overall violence. Let them come on out into the streets and start something - I am sure the coalition forces are heightened for this and are just waiting for some action now.

I actually thought somewhat of the opposite, that possibly some people in Iraq would finally stand up for themselves, knowing that he was gone for good. (maybe they were scared that somehow he would come back to power?? or still had control?)

I guess I kind of thought it would be some sort of closure, and that some people would be able to move on/start new. This would be moreso for the average joe type person in Iraq, not so much the military leaders or gov't.

just my .02.

Arab TV stations report Hussein hanged
Former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein has been executed, according to two Arabic language media outlets. Earlier, an Iraqi judge told CNN Hussein would be hanged before dawn on Saturday in Iraq, (10 p.m. Friday ET). The former president was convicted of crimes against humanity in connection with the killings of 148 people in Dujail.

so the man dies for killing a bunch of people that tried to kill him first but failed. interesting. Look at Iraq now, Saddam was the only man capable of that job. Iraqis need a ruthless dictator or else it turns into total caos and anarchy.

yay for bush and freedom though!

its kinda sweet how democracy works.

especially when you mix it with a religion that is behind a couple hundred years.

I mean seriously...Christianity has been around since after Christ....its not like Christianity got some rule changes after bush was elected prez...so to call a younger religion 'behind' is dumb...niether one of them are behind....however their culture might be behind but thats because they focus more on religion among other things.
