godaddy.com is typically a good choice

if you're purchasing a hosting plan, sometimes you can save a few bucks on registering the domain if you register w/ the hosting co.

[Edited on December 30, 2006 at 7:01 PM. Reason : i don't necessarily recommend that though. i register w/ godaddy and host w/ dreamhost]

for a domain only, it doesn't really matter much. Almost anywhere decent will be under $10/year, and there's really not much in the way of services that a registrar can offer.
A webhost is a bigger decision though, and I would second 1&1 for that. other's prefer dreamhost. good webhosting packages will include 1 or 2 domains

GoDaddy is having a special currently where if you sign up for one of their hosting packages, you can get a domain for $1.99.

1and1 is $5.99/year domain registrations for .com/.net./.org/etc. and $2.99/month for basic webhosting with "free" domain registration

i use 1and 1 for my registrations and use a reseller account for my sites
