Anybody know a good way to do this? I found a program that can convert almost any video format to mpg4, but I'm having a problem taking the files off the DVD. I thought perhaps it'd be one big file but isn't

CueSoft does that i think...they have a serious of programs that will take DVD's and port them to the ipod. or maybe its one program that does all that. I have it at home but don't have access to it now.

^yeah i DLed something from CuSoft that claimed to do that, but when I put a DVD into my drive and tried to convert it with the software, the software could not see any of the DVD files on disc. WTF. Plus it costs $29.95 to purchase, and I'd rather not.

no i am not trying to put dvds on an ipod, but EOL lectures for a graduate IE course.

i dnloaded the videora converter, but god dammit it can't convert .RM files

no where on their website do they mention it can't do that. this is what it says:

Quote :
"Videora iPod Converter is a free video conversion application developed by the creators of Videora. It allows you to convert your regular PC video files (avi, mpeg, etc) into the proper video format that your iPod understands."

WTF are REGULAR PC VIDEO files?

and WTF is ETC???

so i go through a long process of downloading, installing, restarting, blah blah blah, and then i find it is not possible.

so how do i convert .RM files to put them on my ipod?

here is what google gives:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=.rm+to+ipod

anybody had any experience with them? which one is good/easy/reliable/free, etc?

also, if i want to convert some REGULAR PC VIDEO FILES (avi, mpeg for example) to put on my ipod, do i set the output to MPEG4 or H.264? or are they the same thing and/or both will work for ipod?

thanks.

yeah no shit... perhaps you didn't understand my anger/frustration

[Edited on March 29, 2007 at 9:35 PM. Reason : my point was, if it says ETC, for most people that includes .RM video files.]

.rm doesn't work with much of anything. You know that, right?

That format is not handled by many converters because Real is so screwed up. It's all on its own out there. Real generally doesn't play well with others.

Also,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264

I would export to standard MPEG4.

thanks.

here is what i am trying to do with the graduate IE lectures.

i want to put them on my ipod, and then everynight, with headphones in my ears, and some lecture playing, i want to fall asleep.

i want to see if when i wake up, i have learnt a lot of the material in the lecture or not.

i love falling asleep to tv (news is best for this), and then whatever is playing gets incorporated in my dreams. i have been on the international space station, between mediator between hamas and israel, and been to lots of other places.

that's how i got the idea of doing this with lectures.

talking of that, i only need the audio for this, so does anybody know off the top of their head good programs to rip audio (in a format that can be put on ipod) from rm video files? if not, i will check for that tomorrow on the internetz, because now...

... my first lecture has just now as i type been converted to .mp4, and so i am gonna transfer it to my ipod and go to sleep!

update tomorrow. if this works, i am doing a phd thesis!

Check out HandBrake

It was originally for the Mac, but they made a version for the PC. I've used it to make a video file to the computer from a DVD, but don't have a video iPod to test that part out.

Audio Hijack Pro, FTW.

Mac only, though.
