Ok, long story...

iTunes starting acting weird and finally quit functioning...

I can't seem to be able to uninstall the current version on my computer and I get an error message saying...

"The feaure you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" It says more, but that's the main line. I can post the rest of the message if it's critical.

Furthermore, when I try to just download the new version and install that I get the same message when it gets to the point of uninstalling the old/existing version.

This issue is the same when trying to do the same methods with QuickTime.

Any ideas?

iTunes tech support has tried everything with me over the phone... including trying to set it all up under a different user ID on my comp. They eventually just say... this is a windows issue... call Microsoft. Fuckin great... that'll be easy.

Please help... and please spare me the typical (itunes sucks, windows sucks, use "bla bla bla" instead) crap.

Do you get a box asking you to find itunes.msi? or another .msi file?

the itunes installer was incorrectly built by apple. It is looking for itunes.msi, but it cant find it so you get that message. This is the installer file that contains info for installation and uninstallation. So what you need to do is find out where the file is. If you do a file search for itunes.msi on your computer you may be able to find it.

Alternatively if you still have the same iTunes-setup.exe or whatever file you originally downloaded for the install you could use winrar to extract itunes.msi from there. This would be the installer for the current version of itunes. Other versions may not work.

Once you find it you should be able to run the uninstaller again, then when it asks where itunes.msi is, point it at the file.

OK, I've tried all of this and nothing is working. I searched for the msi file and three differennt ones popped up... I tried point the installer or uninstaller at those files and I got nowhere.

The iTunes tech support is not owning up to any of this being their probelm and they keep sending me to Microsoft. Like I'm going to get any help from Microsoft. ITunes is telling me that this is a Windows problem. They are telling me that I need to have the registry cleaned? How do I do that?

Please help... I'm about to toss this whole fucking computer out the window.

look for it in C:\WINDOWS\Installer

the filenames are garbage, but you can identify it by right clicking and looking at the .MSI properties.

Once you've found it, double click the MSI, you'll get some options to remove in there somewhere

* alternate solution *
there's a chance you may be able to find the MSI file in C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Temp

When you run the setup executable, it extracts the MSI and other files to a subdirectory under the above dir, and the MSI file is one of them.

What you'd need to do is download the old version of iTunes that you already have installed on your computer and re-run that version. You might be able to get it from http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=itunes

OK, I found an iTunes folder in the place you mentioned but none of them gave any indication of being a .msi type file...

I deleted the whole folder.

iTunes still appears in my programs list when I am looking at programs to add/remove... but when I click on "remove" I still get the same GODDAMNED error message telling me that "The feature I am trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable"

it goes on to say... "Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to the folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in the box below.

There are no fucking iTunes.msi files on my computer... anywhere... aside from the iTunes program that shows up in my programs list when I try to remove it... there is no other signs of iTunes existing on this computer.

The version that I was last running was... 7.0.1.8

I think I'm going to lose what's left of my mind.

If you've gone through the registry and deleted all the keys associated with iTunes, then download CCleaner and delete iTunes from your program list with the "Tools" option. Try to install the updated version of iTunes.

hey, you don't have to be too brilliant to upload boobs into a gallery (obviously)... but when every method of uninstalling fails.. I'm lost... besides... even the iTunes tech Support people gave up and sent me to Microsoft.

OK, without knowing how to manually delete "keys" from the registry... I downloaded some registry cleaning program (for $30.00... ok... maybe there was a free version out there but I was in a hurry) and ran that. It found like 3000+ issues and apparently fixed them all. Then I downloaded the Ccleaner program and ran that... that also found a multitude of problems and apparently fixed those. Then I went to the tools option and selected iTunes from the list and clicked the uninstall button... and Goddamn it if the same motherfucking message didn't still pop up...
