Heh, I've read a bunch of threads with this guy posting on S2ki. Nobody knows much about how the card handles yet. I believe he had to cut a structual brace to mount it, so the handling may be a little off. Fast as hell in a straight line though. Supra engine w/a single turbo.

2008 Honda S2000 CR

CR = Club Racer

Coming to showrooms in fall!!!

http://www.rsportscars.com/eng/cars/honda_s2000_cr.asp

Quote :
"The lighter, stiffer and more aggressive overall design is engineered to maximize the S2000's potential on a racetrack with the goal of substantially-improving track times, chassis balance and feel. The factory-tuned roadster provides highly-aggressive suspension settings, increased body and chassis rigidity, overall weight reduction and an aerodynamic body kit dialed-in for reduced lift. An aluminum hardtop replaces the convertible soft top as standard equipment.

"The S2000 CR is the closest thing you can get to a Honda-built racecar with license plate holders and a horn," said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "Its features and equipment are designed to appeal to weekend club racing enthusiasts."

The full-body aerodynamic package reduces lift through large and highly-tuned front and rear spoilers. Exclusive chassis features include a quicker steering ratio, Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tires, a wider rear tire size, firmer springs and dampers, larger stabilizer bars and a new wheel design in a dark gray color."

for a lot more pics, including with the hardtop, click link above.

I'm kinda dissapointed, I'd hoped they'd strip it more. It still has power mirrors, AC, and a radio, or at least they haven't gotten rid of them yet judging by all the controls.

I think the main thing that makes it look ricey is the bodywork where the soft top used to be. It may be good for aerodynamics, but...ugh. They should've just stuck with the hardtop for aerodynamics anyways.

And most of all: A club racer convertible with the same pathetically short roll bar?!? Come on! My head sticks 2 inches above that thing in my S2000!

club racer my butt.. that thing still will not pass tech for some road courses. even with the hard top

you would still need to put a bar.

Who lists a car on eBay, loads 16 pics, and doesn't pay the $.75 for the "supersize" option on the pics?

AC and radio are options. You can get it without either.

I have seriously lost a lot of respect for Honda with this "little stunt". That car is nothing but bullshit. Anybody with their own 2 hands could remove retractable top and just use a hardtop.

Fucking pathetic that in a 7 year run they can't make ONE change to increase power (and i don't consider the minor torque boost when they went to 2.2 liters as ultimate speed didn't change)

they are in business of appealing to masses not wolfwebbers

[Edited on April 4, 2007 at 10:14 PM. Reason : actully toyota finally growing some hair on their balls with cruiser and new camry and such]

no, Toyota is still as bland as ever.

So you say Honda isn't in the business of appealing to people like "the garage". Well, lets look at companies that build competitors to the S2000. There was the BMW Z3. Replaced by the Z4. There was the Porsche Boxster. Its been updated countless times. There's the Nissan 350Z. Already been given one boost in hp. MB SLK, etc, etc.

All those companies go for mass appeal too.

bmw, mb, and porche are appealing to niches. nissan is comparable and yes they been having a very strong lineup in the last few years

^^ You wouldn't need near that much for an S2000. You can get a used AP1 (00-02) for around $16k now from what I've heard.

And a new one would be more than that, closer to $35k.
