Besides being Duke, what have they done to deserve being ranked in the top 25? This is just more proof that the voters are completely full of shit when it comes to voting for the best teams in the country.

they beat Gonzaga pretty well

but overall they got a high preseason ranking, which I dont think anybody has a problem with, but they tend to fall down the polls more slowly than some smaller name bball schools

With your argument, since, they are usually a powerhouse, they should be ranked with duke (14) (who are 15-3 as well, but with losses to unranked VT and GT..... which, look much worse)

I think it's about right. Maybe they're overrated slightly, but they're a top 25 team.

VT might be an NCAA tournament team after it's done, and GT is a top 4 team in the ACC. Neither of those are awful losses.

Plus, Duke's RPI is high, although it is early.

I'd put them more around 20-22, but 14 isn't TOO far off.

Rankings have always generally been about how good your wins are not how bad your losses are... hence kentucky barely being ranked.

Duke is 15-3, top 10 RPI, top 5 pomeroy, with wins against Air Force, Indiana, Georgetown and Gonzaga with no really bad bad losses (Marquette maybe, they aren't a bad team though)

Top 20 ranking is very justified.

so how is a team that is 15-3 after playing a top 10 schedule not supposed to be ranked in the top 25? if their Vtech loss is so bad then how did unc lose to them? nobody has blown them out and they have beaten a bunch of teams in the top 50 rpi. why is there bitching about them being ranked 14, and 17 respectively but there wasnt any bitching when they were ranked 5th? they deserve to be in the top 25 as much as anyone.

I think they deserved to be ranked 20-25 just like Bracketology gives them credit for (as a 6 seed) That's all. They certainly are a Top 25 team based on their resume. Some people are giving too much credit to the wins against Indiana, Georgetown, and Gonzaga though based solely on their names (and they only have ONE road win, against a shitty Miami team) and not on how good they are. 14 is too high when you have teams with comparable resumes like ND, WVU, and Kentucky being unranked completely.

It was probably 2000. I know they lost their first 2 or 3 games that year at a preaseason tourney in the Garden.. The National Championshihp game rematch from the year before was the consolation game and UConn won..
