NC State's finest will be under the microscope.

A) The Chargers dont look so smart for trading Superbowl Quarterback Brees in order to start Philip Rivers.

B) The Texans management gets hammered even worse for drafting Mario Williams instead of Superbowl runningback/most dynamic player on the field in Reggie Bush.

Obviously it doesnt mean they arent good players, but you have to think that both parties will question the moves they made by drafting/starting our boys from the Pack.

thoughts?

Unlike most State fans/alums I could care less what the media says. No matter what, paranoid fucks will think the world is against us...

The chargers have looked pretty damn good this year and without a few bonehead mistakes they could be going to the superbowl.

Rivers isn't at fault for the Charger's Loss.

Their loss was a result of bad play calling/ decisions......(going for 4th and 11 with a significant amount of time left), dropped passes, fumbled punts.... things like that. Rivers didn't have a SUPER game, but he did good and it wasn't his fault the Chargers got beat.

Chargers didn't win any playoff games under Brees, just like Rivers.

Texans thought they still had Dominique Davis as their RB

I fail to see how this could come back to haunt us.

Chargers offered Brees $$

He wanted $$$$$

It worked out for everyone (Chargers got a pro-bowl QB for cheap, Brees got like $60 million)

Who cares?

The press after the game aren't going to mention NC State if the Saints win. Heck, they wouldn't mention NC State if the Chargers won it off the back of a dynamite Philip Rivers performance. I don't think too many people that follow the NFL realize (or care if they do realize) that Rivers and Mario went to NC State. Heck, I could care less about it, Rivers is playing for the Chargers, I'm a Broncos fan. I wish him well but it's not like I ever knew the guy or talked to him, I want him to throw 3 INTs when he plays us.

We are the minors effectively, what you're saying is like a Durham Bulls fan getting up and excited cause one of the guys that used to play for them could win the World Series.

I just question exactly how "Pro-bowl" Rivers really was this year.

Love him or not, the two "two-minute drills" that were televised this year with the chargers (Jets and Patriots) weren't pretty at all. Granted, he threw a nice TD pass against the Jets, but he didnt have very good command of the huddle, play calling, or clock management AT ALL.

I dont think that fact can be argued.

Also, if he plays on almost any other team this year, he isnt a Pro Bowler.

I dont think that is what I am saying at all.

Terrible analogy.

22 TDs and 9 picks is a pro-bowl year no matter how you slice it.

his two minute drill against the Patriots wasn't good?

he had no time outs thanks to good ole schott, and he STILL got them close enough for a field goal attempt.

and don't forget(or ignore) the seattle game, TD pass with what, 29 seconds remaining? that doesn't count?

Ok, here is what I'm saying rephrased.

Philip Rivers no longer plays for NC State. Anything he does in football will not make the 4 seasons he had here any better or worse. It does not affect State in any way, and it does not affect me. Rivers could've blown out his knee in his rookie training camp and he would've still been a great NC State quarterback that Pack fans are proud of. He could go on to win four Super Bowls and he would still be a great NC State quarterback that Pack fans are proud of. College does not matter at all when it comes to the NFL.

Do you think Cowboys fans cheer for the Titans when the Titans with Vince Young come to Dallas, just cause he won a national title in Austin?

a') The Chargers didn't trade Brees, they chose not to resign/re-franchise him because they could not afford him and Rivers at the same time.

b') The Texans have been getting hammered about that decision since about noon eastern 4/29/2006. This wouldn't make it worse -- Bush could have the worst game ever and sports media would still not leave the Texans alone.

I expected a post like this to come from someone who started following pro football just this year.

that's another fucking awful analogy, just give up. I'm a state fan and a panthers fan but I wouldn't pull against the panthers if the chargers were playing here, yet I pull for the chargers in any other game.

Some people would pull for the Chargers over the Panthers. They're on these boards for a matter of fact, these supposed "Chargers fans" were praying to God every night for two years for Drew Brees to break his arm. Disgusting people.

Short and sweet what I am saying, there are people that are not Chargers fans, they are Rivers fans, because they think for some crazy reason that will make NC State look better, and the original poster thinks for some reason that the Saints making a Super Bowl means our university gets lessened and will get ripped on Sportscenter. I am merely saying no one, including sports journalist, gives a s*** what minor league football team a guy played for once he's in the NFL.

And I am lampooning why people care about a player once he graduates. Maybe they're psychologically damaged from the fact that our football team sucks, and they have to cheer for a player making it in the NFL in order to get their fix of football success. Although if Rivers fans still continue and he flops in the NFL, I would LMAO at these people following him around and his progress on "THE OFFICIAL 2009 SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS THREAD" on the Wolf Web.

i'd hate to see the saints make the superbowl soley out of spite. i can't stand all the katrina lovefest bullshit, and should they make the superbowl, or win, none of us will ever hear the end of it. what's worse is that reggie bush is on the team, and that's just going to make espn ejaculate all over themselves.

i think it could help out recruiting and the national perception of our football program if we have successful alums in the NFL

that said, i disagree with the original post that the saints in the superbowl will put anyone from NC State 'under the microscope'

don't be mad just 'cause the broncos suck

I'm sure you're tired of hearing about it. Yes, sports media has almost done TOO good a job in reminding everyone that there are still problems in the Gulf Coast that are still closer to problem status than solution status.

But I've said it once, and I'll say it again: For as tired as you are of hearing about it, we're immeasurably more tired of living with it. You can change the channel. We don't have that choice.

Well, I think it's more there's no interesting story to these playoffs and so they're just grasping on straws on coming up with a story for the Super Bowl that will bring interest from the casuals. The Patriots are becoming the New York Yankees of the NFL. Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts are becoming the Boston Red Sox of the NFL. Rex Grossman might take away the title of "Worst Starting QB to Win Super Bowl" from Trent Dilfer. New Orleans, a perennial loser, rising out of the ashes of Hurricane Katrina to challenge for the Super Bowl...that just writes itself.

That said, I think the Bears will win a squeaker tomorrow.

yeah, my bad. Seattle.

But damn, you cant be serious in saying that Rivers led a good 2 minute drill against the Pats.

He sook ~20 seconds to get his team to the line for a play, then threw to Gates on the right-center side of the field with no timeouts.

Not good clock management at all.

dude, it was his first year starting. He's not going to be Joe Montana.

The only terrible throw he made was the 3 yarder. Other than that, he did a good job. He didn't throw a pick, and he got them into a position to win. Not many first year starters could do that.
