I know I have heard a few about women getting off for killing their husbands due to self defense because the husbands were abusive.
Does anyone know any names of cases that involve this?

In the only one I know of, the woman was physically abused multiple times and went to the hospital every time. She kept records to prove it. One day he threatened to kill her when he got back from drinking. He came in drunk, started to come at her like he was going to hurt her, and she shot him. She got off on self-defense, it never even went to trial. This was about 15 years ago in Wake county.

I'd just like everyone to remember this thread when we hear about someone locally killing off their husband and claiming self-defense about 2 months from now.

do you by chance know the names or some way to reference it? I want anything. i have read so many stories about this... but googeling it I am not finding anything, and i need some references. I have a feminist article I am critiquing that is just pissing me off, and i need examples.
The example they are using is that it doesn't matter if your husband is abusing you, and you use self-denfense and kill him (by accident or not), you are going to get convicted of murder simply because you are a woman and the courts don't want "women every where to start killing their husbands."

well, thank you actofgod... unfortunately those women were either crazy or it proves the feminist theory right.
i'm very distraught about this because i know I have heard stories about it.
But, I will use the wikipedia definition for battered women syndrome, it at least gives me some leeway of an argument.

I've never heard of a woman who killed her husband not in self defense, getting off on self-defense because he was abusive. That would pretty much spit in the face of our legal system.

no, I meant being abusive... like extremely abusive, and them literally killing him in self defense. Again, this is not a personal thing. Just a curiosity.
