Parcells retires from coaching after 9-7 season
ESPN.com news services

After a trying season in Dallas, Bill Parcells is retiring from coaching.

"I am retiring from coaching football," Parcells said in a statement. "I want to thank Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones for their tremendous support over the last four years. Also, the players, my coaching staff and others in the support group who have done so much to help. Dallas is a great city and the Cowboys are an integral part of it. I am hopeful that they are able to go forward from here."

The Cowboys finished a tumultuous season with a 9-7 record and lost in the NFC wild-card playoffs when a late field goal attempt went awry against the Seattle Seahawks.

"I am in good health and feel lucky to have been able to coach in the NFL for an extended period of time," Parcells said. "I leave the game and the NFL with nothing but good feelings and gratitude to all the players, coaches and other people that have assisted me in that regard."

Good. He was a great coach and I hope the cowboys suffer from his loss.

haha he was sick and tired of talking about "the player"

how many post-cowboys interview questions are going to ask "how much did Terrell Owens' attitude influence your retirement?"

now the speculation begins....who will take over as coach of one of the most popular and successful franchises with a player like TO and a huge fan base that wants to win in the playoffs. Talk about pressure. Only one man can do it:

Bill Cowher!

HAHAHAHA People believed that Cowher wanted to come here and coach and now it is crazy to think he would want to coach the Dallas Cowboys, perhaps the most successful NFL team ever???

Have a good retirement Bill and thanks for bringing the Cowboys back to contenders after the Dave Campo years.

It seems like there have been more big coaching changes this year in football than in years past. Anyone else feel this way or have stats to support/refute it.

Parcells wasn't coming back if TO was still around. I think Jerry Jones wants to keep TO because he creates media attention and allows his Cowboys to constantly be in the middle of every fucking headline. Thus Parcells retired.

or maybe jerry jones is letting parcells save face by not firing him for underperforming the past 5 seasons.

Well first he was only there for four seasons. Secondly he did take the Cowboys to the playoffs twice so it's not like they were 5-11 each season. Plus this year he used a no named QB and should have made it to the second round of the playoffs if that no named QB hadn't fucked up the hold on a FG.

I don't even like Parcells and I hate the Cowboys, but acting like Parcells did a shitty job is pretty gay and denying that his retirement had anything to do with TO is even gayer.

The team was AFWUL under Dave Campo....they went 5-11 three years in a row.

What was Parcells record first year there? 10-6 with fucking Quincy Carter at QB.

why do you think t.o. influenced parcell's retirement? because espn villianizes t.o., and tells you that they couldn't coexist in dallas?

parcells has NEVER said anything in regards to t.o. to suggest that he's had a problem with him. however, he has blasted the media countless times for trying to antagonize the relationship, and creating stories when there wasn't one.

^ I think he's already taken a job as an assistant with the Seahawks.

They mentioned something about that on sportscenter or nfl live or something.
