i have a new tv and i'm having to cut a hole in my existing bookshelf/ fireplace thingy to wire it the way i want it... but i don't want it to look ghetto so where could i find a nice finishing piece for the hole??

brushed aluminum would be perfect but i know thats asking alot when i don't even know what the damn thing is called

I guess the generic term for what you are looking for is a "grommet". Do a search on "furniture grommet".

If you can't find something, a bass drum vent port might just do the trick.



PS: Flexible trim might be another option:



PPS: Or have someone turn one for you on a lathe.

I think what you're looking for is a "desk grommet." There are probably some nicer pieces out there, but hopefully this will get you started with some stuff to search for.

i would go with a similar material to your mantle/shelf. Nothing else in the picture looks like brushed aluminum to me, i'd stick with wood (assuming that's what the shelf is made of).

If you go to the NCSU crafts center there is a woodshop in the back; You can probably find someone there to make you one that will match your furniture better. There are several students there who turn wood and would probably do it at a fairly low cost. (you'd just have to give them the dimensions)
