Could also be a shooting star or other piece of space debris

I used to see this all the time at Camp Lejune. Paratroopers coming in use a light like this.

Based on the time I'd say it was the International Space Station. Dusk is the best time to see space debris.
--------------------------------
Nevermind, the last ISS pass was Jan 19. Next one will be Jan 30.
---------------------
It was probably one of these russian rocket bodies:

If it was the Okean(2.9 is pretty bright), it was probably a Zenit rocket stage:

Yea, sounds like a meteor if it was that bright and that fast. There were no scheduled reentries that night.

this reminds me of the peekskill meteorite back in 1992 (they are called a meteor in the atmosphere, and a meteorite when it hits the ground)..

it was caught on camera by a bunch of people, as it happened on a friday night and most of the video came from high school football games....check out this compilation of videos of it...amazing

http://aquarid.physics.uwo.ca/~pbrown/Videos/peekskill.htm

it landed on someone's car

I heard on the radio this morning that there were rocket tests being held somewhere around Norfolk, VA during that time. Some people report fast moving streaks across the sky and others report slow moving falling streaks, which would be consistent with a rocket launching and then descending.
