we all know what's going on, we don't have the talent or experience to do well in the ACC, we knew this pre-season, but our guys worked hard and made us believe. We've got the seventh best recruiting class in the nation comming, a transfer point guard from U tenn., and only one senior on the team. but we wouldn't be fans if this didn't hurt

We are 4th in the ACC in free throw shooting at 71.7% as a team.

Yes, we blew a chance to get close tonight by missing key free-throws.

But let's not pretend that we're a bad free-throw shooting team or that it's a NC State tradition now or some shit.

^^ you can't be serious in thinking that that analogy is justification for how poorly we are shooting, especially at critical times, this season.

yes, Shaq and Magic are different players, but the same players from last year are shooting worse this year than before.

Practice free throws independently, with the team, or in your fucking driveway. There is no excuse for going 52% from the line last night. None what so ever. People arent harping on this so far this season becasue we are getting crushed by 15 - 20+ points. I think Sid needs to devote some extra time to this, becasue despite our ineptitude from the floor last night, if we had hit 7 or 8 more free throws, the game could have been completely different.


ATTN: FUCKING IDIOT

We are one of the worst teams in the ACC. other teams who are much better (UNC, DUKE) can afford to miss free throws because they create turnovers or their style of play on offense creates lots of points. NC State does niether right now. We arent hitting free throws and our offense isnt scoring. If thats the case, at least learn to punch in the free ones wehn you get an opprotunity.

Yeah i thought that too, utnill i actually looked up the numbers.

grant, fells, and McCauley are all up in percantage this year in comparison to last.

however, last years stats include the entire year, and we are young into this year.

(and fells' small sample size for last year)

shooting FT against unc-a is a bit different that inside cameron per say

we werent leading the nation in ft% last year...that was a good few seasons ago...we actually had center like Jordan Collins who was like 80% from the line...all our guards could hit FTs...hell Hodge actually would hit free throws that season...i'm just saying while our performance from the stripe last night was downright bad, the year when we led the nation was the exception and not the rule

We had a bad night from the line get over it. Bad nights will happen what does everyone expect we lose our 6 top players and our coach from last season and we will be great this year?? I say 6 because atsur still can't play defense so he should stay on the bench. Give the team a break go support them and just think the beauty of this team is that we play 2 freshman, 2 soph, and 1 junior that means the whole team will be back next year with some addition's that lowe brings in with recruiting.

i dont have a lax attitude, i have realistic optimism. i went into this season with very real expectations of going 3-13 in the acc and im not gonna cry about losing because EVERYONE saw this coming.

Fans have to realize that the money for our athletic programs is not in basketball. Wendell Murphy and the Day family gave nothing to basketball, until we get some rich alumni to support our coach and staff and renevate Renoylds then we are going to have a hard time. I would love to see some one fix up Renoylds AC the building and when our contract runs out at RBC Center move the games back to Renoylds.

yes and an 18000 seat state of the art coliseum with luxury suites pulls in a hell of a lot more money than a 12000 seat gymnasium no matter what kind of renovations you do to it

^DITTO! They are called free throws for that very reason. They're supposed to be free points! Especially at home where you can hear a pin drop. There's no excuse to shoot so poorly from the line. It's like our players cannot multitask and be well rounded in the fundamentals of basketball. Seems like they might have worked a little more on rebounding (which still kind of sucked but was an improvement) and now they can't shoot free throws, can't dribble, or finish ofensively overall. But these are Herb's guys, most of whom look they should maybe still be in high school or something. Lowe will have a little more recruting power. In a few years we should dominate. Too bad it didn't happen while I was there though

I'm trying to stay away from thinking things like that. Yeah, the recruiting start by Sidney was good, but not any better than the previous coach. No one really knows how good of an in-game coach Lowe is yet so it's really impossible to say things like 'we are going to be on UNCs level' or 'we will dominate the acc' in 3 years. Do I hope that happens? Yes. But I'm certainly not going to make that kind of call this quickly into a new regime.

I thought we used to play in that stadium they made into a parking lot on East Campus between Leazar and the public safety offices. You could still see the stands rising up from the parking lto for years until they tore those down this past year.

Again, this whole "these are Herb's players" argument doesnt work in this situation.

Herb's players could shoot free throws. We were the best in the nation in FT% only a few years ago.

If you are going to abuse that bullshit philosphy, at least apply it to where it makes sense.

We arent making free throws because these are Herb's players is ridiculous and is a slap in the face to Herb.

My family knew him personally (church) and believe it or not, that dude took great pride in trying to master the little details like free throws.

The big details, like in game coaching......not so much.
