This has probably been gone over, But I'd like to get feedback from mechanics and jeep owners on the 03-06 rubicon wrangler. I've always been a toyota fan, but in the search for something newer and nicer, I ran across a smoking deal on an 03. Pro's/con's, tell me the good, bad and ugly. any maintenance issues, recalls, etc to watch out for? thanks

is this a real thread?

pros: d44's, factory selectable lockers, 4:1 case.

cons: everything else.

I'd get one. the 44's aren't true 44s though. the front axle uses dana 30 outer knuckles, brakes, steering, outer stub shafts and unit bearings. the rear uses dana 35 brakes, and i think the housing has smaller tubes than true 44's.

you do get the 4.0 which is a solid engine if taken care of, 4:1 in the tcase, factory lockers, etc, blah, blah blah. if you can get a good deal on it get it. if you can find a super cheap tj you can build it better for less.

yep, just the center chunk and the inner shafts are "true" 44. beats the hell out of a 30/35 still.

i'm afraid you'll learn that the hard way when you start romping on that heavy 36 tsl/beadlock combo.

you need to buy the fullwidth 44 and 8.8 i have.
