honda is one of the few "major" auto makers i haven't owned a vehicle from. i was going to buy an early 90's accord one time that had a very light bottom end knock. it blew up on the test drive. 2/1/2007 6:25:47 PM |

I've driven an '04 s2000 and I was really impressed with the way it shifted. Of course, there's more to a transmission than the feel of the shifter...2/2/2007 8:45:21 AM |

^ The S2000 is definitely the best shift feel and throw of any car I've ever driven. Anyone who drives my car says the same thing, that it's just plain amazing. You can shift with two fingers and no movement of your wrist if you really want to.
With that said, the synchros on 1st and 2nd gear suck in AP1 (<2004) S2000's. They're apparently made of a material that degrades rather quickly. It results in a common problem called the "2nd gear grind" where you grind 2nd on high RPM upshifts. My car used to have this in droves, but I changed the transmission fluid and I guess I've learned to shift smoother on the 1-2 shift, because I haven't noticed it in a long time.
Also, the transmission absolutely HATES the cold. On snowy days, it likes to get stuck to the point where you have to let the clutch out slightly in 1st in order to go into reverse. But I've also heard this isn't that unusual on 6 speed transmissions of any kind, Honda or otherwise.
Overall, I've been extremely pleased with my S2000. 2/2/2007 9:17:07 AM |

06 TSX here
It hauls ass for a 4 banger
and the transmission is actually the reason I chose it (it rawks). 2/2/2007 11:22:50 AM |

I will definitely contribute one thing though: I HATE Honda automatic transmissions. I always feel like they're the most rough shifting automatics I've ever driven. I don't like automatics period, but Honda could definitely learn something from companies like Mercedes that have nice smooth automatics. Even my girlfriend's Acura CL 3.2 Type S has a pretty crappy automatic in it.
The power is fun on the highway though, even after getting used to an S2000. The CL definitely wins the "touring" category over the S, heh. 2/2/2007 1:01:38 PM |

id say their manuals are no worse than toyotas. neither are as bad as some of the shit used in jeeps or the stock 5.0 mustang t-5s. 2/3/2007 7:55:16 PM |
