I know it's basically the government paying the person's rent/mortgage, but how does it work if you're accepting it? Can you ask for more than the voucher value? More specifically if you do ask more, then they don't pay the difference can you evict? How does selling to someone with a section 8 buyers thing work ... or does it matter as long as the seller isn't financing? 2/2/2007 3:50:20 PM |

I have a sister who's on Section 8. She had to put her name on a list and wait about 3 or 4 years for them to approve it. I assume they limit the number of people they allow into the Section 8 program because of the high demand for subsidized apartments. When she finally got her voucher, she had to find a place that would accept Section 8; eventually she got a nice 3 bedroom house out in southern Wake County. She's has to keep rules (like no men in the house at night) and some other stuff, but it's a sweet deal for her, and a shitty deal for us hardworking taxpayers.

If your thinking about turning your house into Section 8 housing I would think twice. Long story short you sign your house over to the government, You dont get to pick your tenants. When your house gets destroyed your out of luck. Not to mention that your neighbors will love you. 2/2/2007 4:03:37 PM |

yeah, that's not what I'm thinking ... I heard there are some people who get these things and are planning to buy, so I was wondering if that affects me in any way or if it just affects the bank

WTF?
My perception of this has always been if you own a house that is a dump or in a sketchy neighborhood and want the government to set all the rules for you renting it go for it. It will put a cap on what it rents for but it will pretty much never be vacant and you are guaranteed your money. ]2/2/2007 6:58:26 PM |
