2000 Ford Ranger, under 50k miles under,
trying to start it, the engine turns but it doesn't start. the check engine light comes on as well as the battery light. However, my radio and lights will turn on so I don't think its the battery...suggestions? 2/3/2007 11:10:38 AM |

fuck...cars need gas?
actually, reading up on it, someone suggested I give the car a gas when i started it up...and that worked. They said I prolly had a faulty idle air control valve...does that sound reasonable 2/3/2007 11:33:05 AM |

yep, common problem on on those, it's the 3.0/4.0 v-6 right?
this is what you need: http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductList.aspx?parttype=506&ptset=A&searchfor=Idle+Control+Unit it takes about 10 min to change out

ha...I don't drive much say except for school/work both are less then 2-3 miles. Friends have much more gas efficient cars.
Question, if i get that part, while I wait for it to get here, will starting the car by giving it gas hurt it? It might be a dumb question, but better safe than sorry 2/4/2007 1:22:06 AM |

it will not hurt the car.
that's what idle control valve does, it give your car just enough "gas" to stay running. 2/4/2007 9:54:55 PM |
