If you mean modern as in released (relatively) recently...

LOTR
Princess Bride
Willow
Indiana Jones Trilogy (sort of)

if you mean modern day (as in the movie takes place in this year, this century, etc.), I have no idea (although if you consider Indiana Jones a quest, then it is sort of modern day since it took place in the last century).

Hero - tells the story of an assassin who came to kill the emperor but doesn't and the story behind it. Martial arts flick.
Pan's Labyrinth - The story of a young girl who finds out she is supposedly a princess and in the end you are not sure if it was true or if it was how she was dealing with the traumatic experiences she was forced to face.
