Anyone have one? What do your think? I about this close to picking up one, or a DR 650, to get back into riding. Leaning more toward the KLR (6'2"), bigger tank, assloads of aftermarket gear....

I like them. If I were going with a Suzuki I'd pick the DRZ-400S, but it is much more offroad natured than the others. Honda's XR-650L seems like the closest thing to the KLR-650 from what I've seen.

pwnt's was a fun ride, i rode it a fair amount. unlike most dual sports, it had great street manners. plenty of power/gear for the highway, etc.

it's way too heavy/big for any serious trail riding though, at least in the limited experience i've had. 125's are the biggest thing i've ridden with any frequency. it'd be good for anything else though, dirt roads, fire roads, hopping curbs, etc.

i'm glad you mentioned your height... because they are TALL bastards. i'm just over 6', and couldn't flat foot his (until the rear shock went out, lol).

if you like alot of off road riding, i'd get something smaller like a drz400. go for the klr if you're on the street alot.

Oh yeah...I always forget about the Motard.

The DRZ-400S is actually going to be taller than the DR-650 by a few inches. It is probably much lighter though and it is definately a much better trail bike.

yes, the kl650's seat position is very high. I can't touch the ground when on it, have to lean it on one side and I have difficulty when trying to mount it too. But I'm asian and only 5'8".

Sitting tall is nice in traffic though...Helps you see what is going on ahead of you when you're stuck behind a car.

This will more than likely be 80% (or more street). Already heard about the doohickey. What about a DR650 instead?

Basically I want something to dick around town on and ride to Uwharrie or wherever to fuck around on some fireroads. I'd actually love to get ahold of a DR 350 for a year and not have to relearn on a 650, but I don't think it's that big of a deal in the end.

Those bikes are probably only making 35 or 40 horsepower. Don't be intimdated by it being a 650...It's nothing like a street bike.

^^^^true. the gearing/torque gives the illusion that they're monsters, but not so much.

still, a 650 isn't slow by any means for what it is.

^me too... especially with a pipe. not quite as glorious as an i4 screaming north of 10k rpms though.

btw, the vid toyotafj40s posted is a good tutorial for bringing up any underpowered bike. in addition to loading the forks, that's about the best way i ever found to do it.

^lol, i remember that... i thought you were gonna eat it a couple times in the back yard.
