Why does it seem like our short bench problems are still plaguing us despite getting Atsur back.

Neither Ferguson nor Darrell Davis have seen the floor in the last two games. Why?

GT: Nieman racked up 11 minutes, with one turnover and one assist. Horner 6 minutes and no stats.

UNC: Horner 15 minutes, 2 points, 3 turnovers. Nieman 7 minutes, 3 rebounds, 1 turnover.

VT: Nieman 14 minutes, 1 rebound. Horner 5 minutes. Ferguson 3 minutes, 1 assist, 1 missed shot.

The point? Ferguson can't shoot well enough yet to hang with the big boys obviously. But why aren't we playing him and resting Fells and Atsur with him...if even for 3 minutes a game?

And why not play Darrel Davis for 3 minutes as well.

They seriously can't do worse than Nieman. Why aren't we using those bodies?

its pretty simple, we have a better chance with neiman and horner thats why

putting davis in for 3 minutes is almost a 1/4 of a half....the way we have to rest engin is to pull him before the official 1/4ly time outs

we can not afford to play davis and ferguson b/c of their lack of ability
the only way i can see them getting much playing time is for O / D switch at the end of game situations

Lack of ability?

Compared to Nieman, who in the last 3 games tallied 32 minutes, 4 rebounds, 2 turnovers, and one assist.

I'm pretty sure Darrell Davis can come in for a few minutes a game (spread out across the game, not a solid 1/6 of a half, as you put it) and do as well as Nieman.

Also, we have no real subs for the 1 and 2 spots. Why not use Ferguson for a few minutes. He's a scrappy defender, and actually has a decent shooting percentage, albeit against lesser competition.

I'm not saying I know more than Lowe or anything, but it is surprising we're not at least using Ferguson. It's like we stopped all of the sudden using him...

And I don't know about Ferguson...but I'm all up for giving Davis more minutes. He's athletic and seemed to play some really good defense against Wake Forest.

Atsur was BEAT at the end of the GT game. He needs to get more rest during the game.

I'm telling you....anyone who is mad about last nights loss needs to get some perspective. We did exactly what I thought we wouldnt do after laying the beat down on UNC....we came out on FIRE.

Coming out looking like shit and losing is called a letdown. Playing a great game for 25 minutes and not having the legs to finish b/c your only real bench player went out early is a different story, and I'd much rather see the team in the game mentally early like they were last night.


That was really fun to watch for 20 minutes. I was pissed that we didnt run the clock out before halftime, but those 3 points arent the reason we lost the game.

Atsur just hit a wall with 10 or 15 minutes left in the game. He hasn't had the season to get used to playing 35 minutes or more like his teammates, and was being hounded by the aggressive pressure defense and hand-checking. He was physically too exhausted to take advantage of it and attack the defense. When he hit a wall, our team became completely ineffective. Atsur's stamina should improve as he plays into condition, and maybe we can find ways to spell him and keep our offense going.

Plus, I can't wait til next year when we have some depth to go with this FIRE we currently have. Yes, we'll lose the experienced Atsur, but gain two guards and another big man. Short bench will be short lived.

I think davis could be a competent minutes stealer. He would just have to play defense, rebound, and push around the other team's big. Plenty of other teams play guys like him as a sub just for energy purposes, not skill.

I never want to see Ferguson on the court. He can't even hit 3s, so he is completely worthless.
