My Pop's job will provide major medical for me until I'm 23, provided I'm still in school,I still need dental, I'm thinking of going with Bluecross/Blueshield, they seem to have a pretty decent plan for around $38/month. Other suggestions? Past experiences?

For dental only??? Maybe I'm missing something ... but if you are still a dependent of him, why aren't you completely covered under his plan? I never had to worry about dental, medical or vision as an undergraduate.

For $38/month, I don't see the point of having dental insurance, especially since it probably has a max yearly payout of $1000.

His plan probably doesn't even offer dental at all.

If you get dental insurance, make sure it actually covers something beyond your normal cleaning. Make sure it covers things like sealers, fillings, wisdom teeth, xrays, etc... If it doesn't cover those things, I don't really see the point.

keep in mind with that dental insurance plans (or all that i saw) have a 6-12month waiting period for basic procedures such as fillings, and a 12month+ waiting period for more expensive procedures.

because of the above factors i purchased a dental discount plan for $100 that i mentioned in my thread which gives me PPO pricing as an individual.

My insurance that rolled over from my parent's is Aetna and it doesn't cover dental or optical. We just pay it though, it's not like I have to go to the dentist or eye doctor a lot.

i've always had dental before, this may be my father being a tight ass. ive got braces which were completely paid for in the first year or so that i wore them. the biggest (forseeable) expense i'll have to incur in the next few months is the extraction of my wisdom teeth.

the 38 bucks a month I listed earlier was for dental only through BCBSNC.
