I am going to be purchasing a used (as in $3500-$4500) car in the next few weeks. Would I be better off going to a dealer or looking for a private owner on craigslist, newspapers, etc?
Positives and negatives of buying a car from each of these?
What will be the price difference, car quality difference, etc? 2/12/2007 6:48:18 PM |

a $4000 car from a dealership is going to be a heap of shit, but if you look around for private sellers you can find a well maintained and loved old car 2/12/2007 6:50:10 PM |

Yeah, a 4,000 car at a dealership is going to be a car that the dealer hasn't sold to the auction block yet. (typically)
In that price range, you almost have to go private party. Probably be worth it to pay a mechanic to inspect it for you too. 2/12/2007 7:05:36 PM |

say no to dealerships. They will just sell u a 2,000 car for that price. You can find quite nice 4k cars that are in good shape. But I'd also have a mechanic friend to help you in looking at cars since a lot of private owners tend to misrepresent the car and leave stuff out when selling. I find a good place to find nice used cars are other car forums. Craigslist will work too. 2/12/2007 7:15:41 PM |
